Though I was really slow to get excited about the plot, it got me in the last third of the book. The idea of micro-democracy is a great one to explore, I would have loved more detailled info about all the workings and its history.

Loved this one even more than Wayfarers #1
Becky Chambers proves that Scifi can he great without having violent conflicts as a central theme.

Becky Chambers’ Wayfarers series I call ‘kind scifi’: inclusive and the plots are not driven forward by violence or war. She proves that scifi can be great without setting aliens apart as ‘others’ that need to be fought.

In this book she explores the lives of the people wo still live on the fleet of ships that left Earth many generations ago.

This is done by telling stories from different perspectives, which works well -you get to understand why the different characters feel the way they feel. What is lost is a clear plot, I missed the ‘suspense’ of the two earlier books.

‘The Ranger’s Apprentice’ for adults. Adventures set in an interesting time, written in a nice pace. Better kind of snack :-)

Nice Novella about Binti, the first of her people to travel.

A gifted mathematician, she is offered the opportunity to study on a prestigious university planet. Though mathematics are central, it is not hard scifi, the math is magical, not technical.

The story is about meeting strangers.

Loved the novel scientific ideas and the way the MC is sucked into the military complex trying to follow his obsession: Ball Lightning. Criticized for the dialogues or the 'dei ex machina' I still loved it. Don't expect the level of [b:The Three-Body Problem|20518872|The Three-Body Problem (Remembrance of Earth’s Past #1)|Liu Cixin|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1415428227l/20518872._SY75_.jpg|25696480] though which to me was the best SciFi for ages.

I love the characters. The story not so much. 2 disappointments : timetravel is just a way to chance scenery and meet ‘others’, the ‘open end’ is quite abrupt, more like a brutal editing job.

I might check another book by the writer though.
