I loved the focus on being vulnerable and how strength can come from leaning on others. I appreciated that Storm isn't just a name, but a metaphor for the internal and external conflict Briar and Storm face.
Ultimately a journey of growth, self-discovery, and facing inner storms. I cannot wait for the next book in the Crimson Ridge series!

There is such a brutal honesty to this memoir in how it is written. Nikki shares so many stories of what it took back in the 60s-80s to make it in Hollywood. So many instances of sleeping with someone without any emotional connection. There is an emotional detachment from many of the stories she shared as a young teen with the avoidance style learned from her mom to drop people that hurt you in any way.
While the style in which these stories are shared isn't one in which the author is seeking attention from these stories. She simply tells it how it is. It's so easy to forget many people to get caught up in celebrities' lives and form attachments from a distance, but these actors are simply people too and just because they are in the light doesn't mean they are who they portray in films. They are acting and in real life may not be a good person
There are cases that could be considered rape and sexual favors asked in exchange for roles. It's so sad! I'm thankful things have changed because during her early adulthood it was a sign of wanting the role you would anything.
I loved the humor in the story! The fact Nikki and her friend dressed up as nuns when they were underage to use their fake IDs to purchase alcohol is hilarious!
If you enjoyed Emily Hugo's Seven Husbands with that flashback to vintage Hollywood, you will enjoy this memoir!

This was such an entertaining shifter romance with a strong heroine and a groveling alpha who actually tries to change. I especially loved the twist of a virgin alpha saving himself for his mate, which felt refreshing compared to the usual alpha trope.
Una was easily my favorite part of the story. Even though she has a fated mate, she never loses her autonomy or independence. She stands up for herself and her friends, even when that means confronting the powerful Alpha Killian. Also, so many shifter romances are insta-love. I loved that this wasn't.
Watching Killian slowly grow and realize he needs to change, not just for Una but for the entire pack, was really satisfying. I appreciated how he wanted to improve the way pack members treated each other and push them toward being more civilized. Being a wolf doesn't mean they have to act like animals or to pick on the weaker pack members.
I was also a bit confused by the moment when the side character suddenly removes Una’s mate bond, which felt like it came out of nowhere. More description on what exactly was done would have answered my questions.
This was a really enjoyable rejected-mate romance with a heroine who knows her worth and an alpha who has to work to earn forgiveness! Actually, this is my favorite shifter story I've read and would definitely read more by Cate! If you love shifter romances, you need to read this series!

Ezzya is funny and yet so considerate and caring towards Dae! I loved his growth as a character who has to learn to set up boundaries for himself when it comes to his research.
Honestly, I was picturing Katara and Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender, older and going to university. 😂 The 🔥 scenes were 👌🏼! Jaime can write a good 🌶️ scene. I will be reading the rest of this series STAT because I need to read the side characters stories!

The characters were incredibly lovable, even the noisy neighbor Joan, which made the story feel so rich and engaging. 80 year old Mabel reminds me a lot of my granny who isn't super affectionate, but instead shows her love through acts of service such as baking.
I also really enjoyed the audiobook. Jenny Seedsman (adult Mabel) and Hannah Fredericksen (younger Mabel) both did a fantastic job bringing her to life. Jenny’s voices for some of the kids were a little distracting at times, but overall the narration really enhanced the experience.
This is a story that sticks with you long after you have read it! Definitely recommend!

The political intrigue is layered and clever, but it’s the characters that truly shine flawed, ambitious, and deliciously morally gray. The MMC may be my new favorite male book character! Reid is so kind and gentle with Vaasa. He is so perfect for the scared and traumatized Vaasa as he slowly softens her untrusting heart.
The enemies-to-lovers dynamic? Immaculate. The slow-burn tension builds in the most satisfying way, with every glance and every sharp exchange carrying weight. Their forced alliance adds the perfect level of angst and vulnerability beneath all that power and pride.
Saga Press was so kind and sent me this audiobook and the narration for this book is perfect! Jesse Vilinsky does a perfect job expressing Vaasa.
The world feels dangerous and alive, full of secrets, shifting loyalties, and high-stakes decisions that actually matter. Every twist lands. Every betrayal stings.
If you love dark fantasy romance with bite, intensity, and emotional depth, this one is absolutely worth the hype and book two, The Wicked and Damned which came out February 24th this year. You can bet I will be reading book 2!
