felt the ending was a little rushed but other than that this was full out amazing, all the characters were developed and felt real, and so was wren and lei’s relationship. i loved that all of the paper girls felt like real characters. none of them were throwaways.
also loved that the king was a real bastard, was refreshing to not have a tortured boy king and instead just have an actual power hungry oppressive entitled man in power. although i do love those tortured boy kings lol.
overall this was really good. i’m sad that the dog died tho. fr i had to go check on my dogs after that!!! there should’ve been a warning for animal abuse :(
i will read the sequel when it comes out!!!

With influences from both Snow White and The Snow Queen, Girls Made of Snow and Glass tells the story of the not-so-delicate Princess Lynet, who is a literal carbon copy of her late mother, and her stepmother, the only mother Lynet has ever known, Queen Mina. Despite Mina being literally heartless (as in, her heart is made of glass) and unable to love, she and Lynet have had a mother-daughter type bond, and Lynet is unaware of Mina's condition. When Lynet's father, the king, announces that he plans for Lynet to take Mina's place as queen, bonds begin to shatter. L I K E G L A S S.
I picked this up for three reasons, and three reasons only. 1) It was in the LGBT section. 2) I knew it was a Snow White retelling. 3) Knowing reasons 1 and 2, I owed it to Regina Mills, whose LGBT love story was SQUANDERED AND WASTED.
What I Liked:
-Lynet and Nadia's relationship. I didn't mind that it wasn't the main focus of the book; it was enough.
-Everything about the ending. I almost cried. A l m o s t.
-Felix! I think the concept of a character who is a mirror to any character they face is so interesting; and the fact that he gained humanity is even cooler.
What I Didn't Like:
-What The Fuck Is Up With The King's Obsession With His Dead Wife.
-???????? LIKE WHY
-Moving on.
-Writing felt VERY infodumpy on pretty much every other page.
-I did feel Lynet and Nadia's romance began very fast so
What I Wish There Was More Of:
-Nadia mentions One Time that the royals of Whitespring sit back and do nothing while villagers starve and freeze, and then when Lynet is traveling you see like five freezing villagers. Not enough of a plot line for me. I WANT TO SEE SOMEONE DOING SOMETHING ABOUT THIS! REBELS! RIOTS! The head pigeon (I don't remember her name and I'm not bothered to look it up) mentioned in one scene that there could potentially be riots. WHERE ARE THEY? Like, I know the purpose of that scene was to AVOID the riots, but I want them. Maybe I'm just an instigator at heart when it comes to literature.
-Explanation. I want to know HOW Sybil's curse was actually created and WHO created it, I want to know HOW Lynet's mother died, I want to know WHAT made the magicians other than Gregory disappear?
Other Thoughts:
-At first I thought it would be hard for this book to get me to care about a character who fundamentally can't love other people, but it succeeded. I found Mina to be far more interesting and, yes, lovable, than Lynet. Probably because I found Lynet quite childish.
-To be honest, this was kind of boring until the last, like, 75 pages.
FINAL THOUGHTS: I don't really have much else to say. I think it was a wonderful concept to pull from both of these fairy tales, and I think some of the lines in this book were VERY good, but overall, I was kind of bored.

this was so... Eh. like i read it and it was okay but there was nothing There. i finished it 5 minutes ago and i already forgot most of the characters names. i do have nice things to say about the scenery though... it was v descriptive and nice.
don’t necessarily recommend this like i still enjoyed it but no it factor. no wow. i’m sleeping. goodnight

this fuck’t me up real good. THE SENSITIVITY....... i understand why this is a classic. the gays are tragic but i am willing to accept this.
ALAS, THE ENDING. OMG. I Could Not Believe It Dot Jpeg. this is an example of a twist that once it is revealed, the reader can go back and trace the foreshadowing. it is one of my biggest pet peeves when there is a twist for the sake of a twist.
i’m at a loss for words, tbh. love how personal this felt... i was the one receiving these letters. i felt the pain of the person getting each letter in the mail and the panic of not being able to do anything to help this Poor Lost Sixteen Year Old.
this was beautifully written and will stick with me.
4.5 leaning far towards a 5.

The highlight of this novel for me was the fact that I predicted both major plot twists on page 99. Then, when they were actually revealed, it was so satisfying. I was like, YES. I was RIGHT. Though, I don’t know what that says about the actual quality of the novel.
Maybe I’ll do a longer review of this after I finish the Reading Rush?

this was lowkey way better than anything else i’ve read recently. the ending made me flash back to reading the ending of red queen book one , so , that was fun. idk... i kept waiting for gays and the gays never came. Give Me Gays Blease

ok. what even was the point of all those usages of the word tender, arguably the gayest word, describing how isaac would look at / speak to justin, if they weren’t going to FUCKING get together?
not to be like. i knocked off a whole star for this but. i knocked off a whole star for this.
im tired of tortured, unrequited lgbt storylines. like. torture them by all means if u let them kiss and be happy at the end. GOD
disappointed
