1.5

I feel gracious with this 2 star honestly it feels more like a 1.5 and the whole reason it’s not a flat 1 is I still have read worse. I had already read the first one and wasn’t a fan but I went in open minded to the 2nd thinking maybe it was better. I’m so thankful I borrowed the book and didn’t buy it because it was tough. I’ve never DNF a book and I almost gave up and did. I literally drug myself across the finish line.

I fell asleep reading it… THREE TIMES. Once even during the ‘big’ battle scene

The plot was enough in the first book to kinda be the saving grace. It fell flat in this one. The main characters somehow feel even worse this round. The side characters being the saving grace. The writing still flat and dull. Just overall not an enjoyable read.

I saw someone refer to this series as trash tv. Something mindless to devour and enjoy for a moment but easy to forget about in the future. I will say I feel like they aren’t far off I just wish I could have enjoyed it as much as it was hyped up.

This was a reread since it had been years since I first read the series and couldn’t remember much of it other than I had really liked it back when I was little.

It still holds firm. The writing is obnoxiously well done. The characters are diverse enough despite being in the same situation with similar backgrounds. Yes you want to strangle them at points but it’s a properly written spoiled 16 year old what more did you expect. You’re supposed to want to shout at them. The plot also tugs you along well enough to keep you interested. I will say now as an adult the hints of romance feel a bit rushed/ based on nothingness but if I recall correctly it develops more in the following books (which I plan to reread)

Overall 4.2 if I’m being really picky.

I’m in the middle of rereading some of my old favorites I from when I was younger to see if they were actually good or was I just an infant reader.

I’m glad this is the series I started off with.

The writing continues to be fabulous. The characters continue to develop and change through the series. The plot twist are proper twists as they string you along as much as the girls in the story. Overall it’s just a solid enjoyable story.

I reread the whole series recently because I was having a minor identity crisis since I had taken a break from reading and everything that was coming to me ‘highly recommended’ felt more like badly written Wattpad stories so I opted to go back and see if my old favorites were as horrible as the new trends and I just never saw it when I was younger.

No it was just as well written and structured as I remembered. The writing style is just a favorite. It really pulls you in like you’re right there and can touch and smell everything around you. THERE IS A PLOT which is something so many new stuff is missing these days. At the very least a well constructed one. Still not overly a fan of one bits of the ending but I think most of us were heartbroken over that choice. Which reminds me my original comment on the first book, the slight forced/rush hint of romance lurking there. Over the other two books it’s more properly spread out actually making it more of a respectable possibility. Also makes what happens a bit more heartbreaking.
There are still some characters I wish would have been a bit more changed as time went on. Simply character growth that they never got that I think the reader would have enjoyed to see but at least others got some.

Overall if Libba Bray would like to resurrect this series in a fast forward to what the Order would be like today I’m sure it would be heavily loved

The writing was *french kiss* despite the occasional swap from time periods it was easy to follow and digest. The characters were enjoyable aka I didn’t fight the urge to toss one of the out the window the whole time. Deserved or not.

It was enjoyable and a fresh storyline overall
