the start had me hooked with cute ideas like letters and the back and forth banter between our main characters, but the latter half lost me. it kind of dragged on and there were miscommunication plots that i did not care for.

the sudden (well, not really sudden) tonal shift the book took at it’s last few chapters really had me feeling unsettled. i knew it was coming but when it happened i was still gagged. overall it was pretty cool bible fanfiction.

lyrical and mesmerizing prose once you really get into the story, and i liked that their letters ranged from casual witty banter to “I want to drink tea beside you in ten years or a thousand”

the worldbuilding is abstract and sort of vague but i think it was meant to be written that way? not as the main focus but more to act as a backdrop for blue and red's relationship as they weave through time and space.

i get how the lack of understanding anything that’s going on would put off some readers but please #trust the process on this one.

the sheer amount of names and political information in this book forced me stop reading for a few months, but then i locked in again.

the sexual tension, chemistry, and banter between two opposing sides who want nothing more than to tear each other apart, before slowly realizing they’d be better off working (scheming) together. no one does it quite like cezhou i fear.
