3.5

This was so mediocre it was kind of underwhelming at the end.

This novel has a very good writing style, however, for something that was supposed to be a slow-burn romance type of book, it felt kind of surface level.

I expected more pining, more chemistry and a lot more sexual tension than I actually go 😅

Another thing, that's completely on me, is that I should've probably read the synopsis again before buying this duology as this first novel was all about a magical tournament and I really, really don't like reading (or watching) any sort of tournament, magical or not 😅

However, what made it kinda boring for me was that the world is kind of underdeveloped. I don't know if it's because this shares a world with a few other of the author's works but give that it's a self-contained story, I don't think she should've forgone the world building.

On top of that, she pulled a "From Blood and Ash" and I'm just tired of reading the same plot over and over again.

Overall, this was a decent novel, but I wanted and expected more.
