Epic, except the ending which made the slightly unlikable mc straight up unlikable. I was not prepared for that ending :/

Not a page turner, but it had quite a few heart-touching parts.
For an enemy to lovers romance, I found it really sweet.

I could not care less about Momoko.
I wanted more bookshop, less about Takako's uncle's weird wife

so boring.
This was truly mid.
There was absolutely no chemistry between the characters. And for a romance book, that's not great, because what else was there?
January is silly and Gus is.....not romance worthy. Their relationship felt so cliche.
SpoilerShes a hopeless romantic and hes an iceberg and she melts him.....through what exactly? A friendship which started with a dare? A makeout sesh?
.
And the only other trope
SpoilerJanuary's dad being a cheater
? I could not care less. Really odd how everyone in this book is attached to their ex.

I liked the story but in a very unenthusiastic way, if that makes sense. I knew beforehand the story would be an allegory to communism, but while reading, it felt too obvious, not leaving much to imagination.
I might reread it tho

To me, this didnt feel like a book, but rather someone coming up with hot scenarios before bedtime (I would know).

It was too idealistic, and the execissve amount of sex scenes made it kinda boring. It cut off from the excitement.

As a positive, the characters didnt feel flat at all. I can see how it might be enjoyable to others.

The beginning caught my attention, but the "past pov" became repetitive pretty quick

While this story has the sillyness/messyness of a ya romance, self-discovery and drama, i found it quite heavy on the subjects of homophobia, race and family issues.

Overall, a good read, I just found the romance aspect so messy I couldn't really kick my feet in the air when Elsie got together with

3 words: small but mighty

Dont get fooled by the cover/title, this is gonna be a wild ride.

I truly didnt expect this book to have so many subplots. Everything written is either getting into the characters' minds, a new twist or cozy decor. The writing style is truly perfect.

Each twist kept adding to the story, and it made me curious to see what would happen next. Personally, i wish Karla ended up in a worse place (for comedic relief).

I cut one star because i found the ending too abrupt + some details felt too repetitive
