Honestly I feel like, at the time, this book was satisfying and what I was looking for romance-wise (if you could even call it that). However the “twist” at the end is either not laid out or not planned out well enough. The hate this book gets is a little much but I see where some are coming from. Maybe some of the things I’m confused about will be answered in the second book but there are quite a few inconsistencies that bug me. On a brighter note, this is one of my first romantasy books so I can appreciate the creativity. I also thought the spicy scenes weren’t obnoxious (possibly lacking even but I’m not too picky about spice) so I’m pleased with that. Overall not too bad a start on my fantasy journey! <3

Me before the ending: “hm okay maybe there is hope for this sick world yet.”
Me after the ending: “God dammit.”

Wheww what a rollercoaster of a book! Definitely don’t regret reading though. I love how imperfect these characters are. Some piss you off, others you can relate to, and sometimes you realize you would do the same thing and you’re pissed at yourself 😂. This book is really creative in the way it makes you think about what truly matters in life. The ending is also very satisfying in my opinion.

Dade’s writing never fails to keep me hooked. I love the complexity of the characters. It felt like I was reading about real people with real lives. The book was a bit (a TINY bit) too fast-paced for my taste but it hardly made a difference in the development of the MCs’ relationship in my opinion. I also appreciate that she doesn’t just give us a cop-out happily ever after ending (huge pet peeve of mine). No, it was actually relevant to the rest of the story and meshed very well. Super satisfying read as always!

I purposefully did not go into this book with any expectations despite the overwhelming hype on the internet. I’m glad I didn’t because I’ve never read a book faster 😂 the theme was nothing entirely original but the way it was set up and played out was very satisfying. Not to mention the well placed ✨spice ✨(can we talk about “crawl to me”??? cause wow). Im mostly relieved that I wasn’t cringing too much with enemies to lovers being a little low on my list. Great read overall!
(I freakin KNEW it was Mikaela btw)

4.95 really. LOVED the book but the ending was slightly unsatisfying.
