Excellent book !
Good plot.
Decent characters.
Very funny at times.
Writing style is amazing, as amazingueur as the Wolrd building.
However, I still don't quite understand the ending.
I recommend this book to pretty much anyone with à scifi interest ,

The first part and the second part of this book were nice, not amazing as far as i'm concerned, but very nice indeed, sure, there are some things that slightly annoyed me like how Neal goes verbose-mode on details sometimes and things like that, but i would still consider it a good read.

Then came the third part.

I disliked it.
I disliked the characters (although i never cared for the former characters too i guess), but for these i actively hated them.
I disliked the 'Neal-gone-verbose' even more now since it retold details i do not care about about the 'world' and how it's structured, though i suppose fans of world-building liked that. (just to be clear, i like world-building as well, but not when i am reading a genre that is NOT supposed to have any (or rather a genre that is not so centered on it))
I kind of liked the story of the third part i guess, tho it wasn't original and felt more like some basic, unoriginal drivel more than anything.
The detail about how another untold plan was being carried out to see the viability of surviving underground was also nice, although it was probably an ass pull, but then again so was the entire story.
Also, i feel the novel could've been much much better if part 3 immediately followed part 2's ending, instead just as we got a (tiny) bit attached to the eight characters, a new novel started entirely.

EDIT : Also i should add, i skipped large parts of Part III since i just couldn't stand the vapidness of it all.

In conclusion; Part III really left a sour aftertaste to this, such a pity.

Just finished this beautifully put novel !

And what a novel it is !

I was also surprised at the ending i guess, but i won't spoil it !

I recommend it to most people, it's a good, informative read, although you might feel tired reading Alberto's monnologues (and that's basically what they are, since Sophie's interruptions aren't that informative which is fair enough, it's a philosophy textbook after all)
Also most of it reads as nonfiction since it's retelling of the history of philosophy!
Argh this revew is starting to state the obvious!
Anyways, good read, worth the time, will probably check out more of this author's work !

Second time reading this.
The first time i read this, i did not pay as much attention as i did this time (and indeed, this is kind of what *pushed* me to re-read it in the first place)
This time around though, i made sure to really soak in the plot and the story, and i think i did a good job as i purposefully slowed down my read and every chapter i made sure to have a status update so that next time if i wanted to know the outline of the story i would only look at the status update.
I think that was pretty neat if i say so myself.

But yeah the bleak, hopeless world, Rick, the sleek world-building (it is amazing given how short PKD's books are), the specials, the androids, it's very ... typical of the author.

I still will ponder somethings like how the androids "feel", and the nature of the theology throughout the story.
