The Book Thief by Markus Zusak

I do like the book a lot, that I'll admit. It gives a different twist to a time I'm sure everyone has read a lot about. I was just kind of disappointed that the way it's written doesn't really live up to the hype.

Rather interesting and enjoyable story, but the descriptions go on FOREVER, which gets very very exhausting after the first 20 pages.

When I first started reading this, I had a "oh, no!" moment because of all the financial, business-related talk in the beginning. I must admit that it took me about a week to get through the first 100 pages, reading it on and off. After one of the main characters (Blomkvist) starts working for Henrik Vanger, though, it really picks up, and it becomes very hard to put the book down.

There's a Vanger Family Tree chart at the beginning of the book, which is very useful since all the Vangers get mixed up in your head from time to time. I also had trouble keeping up with the real names and nicknames and everything, but you get used to that after a while as well. There's also maps of Hedeby by the author himself, which would be helpful to understand what events took place where.

I really liked the fact that there's more than one mystery going on in the book, and it's both event and character driven. While reading you might think you have solved the mystery, and even if you guess correctly who the murderer is, your jaw is pretty much gonna drop when the whole truth is revealed.
Seriously...I'm Kidding by Ellen DeGeneres

I love Ellen DeGeneres. I love her stand-up acts and her talk shows. Normally, I'm not that into stand-up acts because most comedians make fun of stereotypes or are way too political. I don't like situations where people are looked down on or bad-mouthed, especially when it's done as "comedy" to be justified. The main reason I love Ellen is she's nothing like what I've just described. She doesn't hurt people. On the contrary, she's funny, positive and inspiring.

I laughed out loud while reading her book, "Seriously... I'm Kidding." The book doesn't focus on a specific subject; she jumps from one to the other as always. The chapters are usually short, and some of them are very creative. For example, she made one of the chapters a coloring book for readers who have kids. She also has a special chapter for those who prefer the audio book version, and it's still included in the printed book. And, as always, she has funny stories and ideas about life itself.

I'm seriously thinking about uploading the audio book to my iPod so I can listen to a few chapters when I'm feeling down. I truly believe Ellen DeGeneres makes people happy and makes me forget my worries even for a little while.
Then Again by Diane Keaton

Diane Keaton is one of my favorite actresses of all time. I've loved every of hers that I've seen, and judging by the interviews and such of hers I've seen and read, I've always loved her funny, sometimes over-the-top character, and I love love love her fashion sense. No matter what some readers said, I loved this book too.

Keaton's mother kept 85 journals throughout her life. As Diane Keaton explores her journals, she also explores herself and the rest of her family. It wasn't such a surprise to find out they're just like any other family with all their problems and sorrows and happy moments together. I also wasn't surprised that she's insecure and self-conscious. I especially enjoyed the parts where she questions if she's "pretty enough" because this is something I'm sure everyone goes through.

She's an internationally famous, successful actress, but she's also just like any of us. And I loved how she reflected that onto the page. If you love Diane Keaton or celebrity bios in general, I think this is one you shouldn't miss.
