I feel so bad because I love ana huang, but I have to speak my truth…

this is definitely my least favorite book of hers, my expectations weren’t high for this book and yet they weren’t met😭 the plot was good in theory - football player x ballerina, brother’s rival, forced proximity - but the execution wasn’t great… I feel like the love story was rushed, the plot was predictable, and the characters were bland. I did like asher in the previous books, and I don’t dislike him now, but I feel like his personality could’ve been developed a LOT more (especially with a book of this length). the same goes for scarlett, I don’t dislike her but I don’t feel close to her at all. this is one of the reasons why I wasn’t emotionally affected by their relationship. the side characters were……. there, I guess. once again, I don’t feel close to them, although noah did make an impression on me (I don’t know when we’ll have his book, but I’m READY). the plot was all over the place, it started off pretty well and then it felt like a lot was happening and at the same time nothing at all, it was very dramatic and FOR WHAT. I think this book would’ve been a lot better if it had been shorter and if vincent had been the love interest…. he had more tension and chemistry with asher than scarlett did. I liked to see sloane again though.
review with spoilers!!:
the plot: “WHAT HAPPENED TO THE ORIGINAL PLOT OF THE MOVIE??” I genuinely don’t understand why vincent had to stop training with asher and scarlett, because it was supposed to be the central point of the story?? in my mind, asher and scarlett were going to hide their tension/chemistry/blooming relationship from vincent DURING training, while he’s there (right under his nose, you know what I mean?). but instead, vincent had to stop training with them because… I don’t even understand why😭 his father doesn’t like his nurse? what is this
the relationship: insta love. yeah…. I wasn’t expecting this. I thought they would dislike each other at first and then slowly warm up to each other, also the book is very long so I was expecting a slooow burn and got the opposite. they were cute but nothing special.
the drama: everything was so dramatic in this book, what do you mean vincent & scarlett’s father had an accident, and then asher’s father is in the hospital, and then scarlett faints, and then asher has a car crash, oh and don’t get me started on the drama with clive because it was so unnecessary😭 what was that weird thing with asher and his cars? and the way he GAVE THEM ALL AWAY TO….. GET SCARLETT BACK? am I crazy or does this make no sense🚶♀️ btw the third act breakup pissed me off because it was such a dumb reason to breakup, and it didn’t even last long. it felt like everything was here to make the book longer, but WHYYYY, it genuinely didn’t need to be 600 pages long.
the spice: this isn’t important, but ana huang wrote this book so I have to mention it. she usually writes good spicy scenes (even though they can sometimes be repetitive) with some iconic ones (the gazebo, the limo, etc), so I had some expectations. and guess what….. I was disappointed yet again😭 nothing special about these scenes, but at least it’s coherent with the rest of the book I guess
british english: I’m not english, and english isn’t my first language so correct me if I’m wrong, but the british english felt sooo weird. it was written like american english with some british slang thrown in on top (in some chapters you could literally find “bloody” every two lines) and… I don’t know, it just felt weird.
the side characters: I don’t really care about them, they weren’t very interesting, we all know they’re just here to introduce us to the next couples in the series. also, can we take a second to talk about the way brooklyn was introduced?? so dramatic, once again. I know I’m going to read the next book, but I don’t care about vincent and brooklyn😭 and if it’s 600 pages long again, I swear I’m going to cry
alright, that’s it for today, thank you for reading😙

you know that feeling when you can’t stop reading a book, and when you’re done, you can’t get it out of your head?
that’s exactly what I felt with the favorites. I missed that feeling so much, and this book reminds me why I love reading. the characters are so complex and well written, the writing is mesmerizing and the plot is well thought out, everything is so perfect and I can’t find enough words to describe this book. I was hooked from chapter one, and it just kept getting better and better. I felt every single human emotion during my reading, from excitement to surprise, sadness to happiness, it was a rollercoaster of emotions🙂↕️ I cried, I laughed, I gasped, and the twists kept surprising me.
I’m not kidding when I say this is one of my favorite books, I’ll never stop recommending it. I’m absolutely obsessed, and I need to buy a physical copy! the emotional connection I feel with this book is insane, thinking about it makes me want to cry (in a good way) and I feel so empty now that I’ve finished it☹️
thank you Layne Fargo for this masterpiece🫶🏼

first, let's take a moment to appreciate the cover!
the MMC was so adorable and I loved the FMC, the plot was good and the banter??? loved it. some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy, but I found it cute🙂↕️ however, I feel like the end of the story was a bit rushed, and the romance developed out of nowhere. it started out well, with tension between them, but then it felt like it was escalating way too fast. overall, it was a cute and easy read, and I’m glad I had the opportunity to read this book!
