The Bookshop on the Shore by Jenny Colgan

I had a very difficult time understanding the author's writing style. I know she's in the UK and the formatting and language might have just been weird for me. I don't think it had anything to do with the contents of the book though so I can't give it an accurate rating

I just couldn’t do the mental acrobatics anymore trying to understand where the author was trying to take us. The writing is disorienting, hard to follow, does not flow well, and misses the mark when it comes to setting the scene and orienting the reader in the characters time and space. I had high hopes that I would love it as the premise seemed wonderful, I love a good time travel story, but I just couldn’t get through it unfortunately.

It definitely had me hooked in the beginning. I figured out what was going on about halfway through and after that it was just a matter of sticking around to see the how. I was very disappointed in the ending, it wasn’t what I’d hoped it would be.
I was probably a bit more triggered by Stephen/Dominic because of his similarities to a few of my exes but I still wanted to read on. I was hoping for a more triumphant moment and it just kinda fell flat and ended without tending to any of the details of tying up the ends left loose.

Also, after having such a terrible accident, wouldn’t both of them be pretty severely injured? Not just her brain, but her whole body should have been pretty wrecked from that wall. How is she totally fine walking to the park so often? It just felt like a lot of details weren’t tended to but it did have me interested in the first third, so there’s that.

And being that Livvy was so close with her family, I don’t believe they’d let three weeks go by with the only communication being texts and emails telling them not to come WHILE THEY STILL HAD HER BABY?!?! Bea would be like 🚩🚩🚩🚩 immediately! I was thinking he had staged both their deaths or told them she died or SOMETHING but this was just disappointing. I’m sorry

This book was a great continuation of the series, though I found myself having a harder time getting into it than the first book. By the end I was plowing through it, though, because the twists really got my pulse racing and the desire to see how things turned out was so strong. Holmberg really does a great job of keeping me guessing and those are the best books in my opinion! Looking forward to the release of the third one

Five star read, hands down. The character development, the beautiful way Charlie orients us in the world she’s created, the plot full of twists and turns. Amazing. If you want a book with whimsical magic, found family, slow burn romance, and a touch of happy tears, this is the one.

I loved this book. I can't wait for the continuation of the series. Wheeler was descriptive and historically accurate and I loved the writing.

I liked it well enough but it just felt like a porn would. No real plot development, just segues between sew scenes and it left a lot of plot holes in my opinion. The sex scenes were hot though

A friend of mine got this book for me for Christmas since she thought I could relate to the autistic main character. As a late-diagnosed autistic woman, it was so wonderful to see such beautiful representation of people like myself. I cried at times feeling so connected to the character and what she was going through. Everything about this book was perfect, the unfolding, the characters, all of it. I will definitely be purchasing the next two books in the series as I can’t get enough of Helen’s writing and the wonderful characters in her world she so beautifully created.
