HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT UNTIL AUGUST FOR THE NEXT BOOK.
anyways, this book was pretty good, i definitely liked it more than majesty- mostly bc daphne is my fav character in the series and i really wish she would just tell jefferson everything because all the lies are actually killing me. also, side note, why do i kinda ship nina and daphne?
i think the whole race dialogue was actually done... surprisingly well? especially considering this is a white author, i was definitely impressed. i like she expanded from the last book's mentions of this mostly being about america's sentiment towards marshall's family's race into a more nuanced take showing how marshall's family has their own feelings towards crown, and how marshall feels pressured to be a paragon of "black excellence", which is something i think is really timely nowadays (speaking from my own experience as being a muslim indian-american, and how asians are supposed to be the "model minority").
i do think this series tends to suffer when the author backs out of her more complex topics and settles for a more middle-school, idealistic tone, like but i can overlook that i guess since it's not like these books are supposed to be really heavy. also, the ending really annoyed me- why does it feel like in these types of books
anyways, i did not expect to have so many thoughts about an american royals book, but here we are. this book was a fun read and definitely marks an improvement in the series, and i cannot wait to read the next!

the main character always ends up in a car crash in the penultimate book? this is such a strange trope, i really wish authors would think of something newanyways, i did not expect to have so many thoughts about an american royals book, but here we are. this book was a fun read and definitely marks an improvement in the series, and i cannot wait to read the next!
McCarthy is so so so talented and I get what his whole point is with this book and I think it's really cool but holy hell that was the most horrific reading experience I have ever had Lester Ballard is DEPRAVED.
