storyline was kinda thin, romantic interest was not it, but currently too hyperfixated on olympics gymnastics to really care :D

fun!! why are me and hyacinth lowkey the same person though

kinda disappointing?? first 20% and last 10% were really good, middle 70% was a slog... i dunno Grant was just a really boring love interest which seems insane considering the whole premise of the book, but he just didn't seem very grounded in reality at all. also i hate hate hate the third-act car accident plot device, i guess in this book it was supposed to be a parallel but still it just always feels way too lazy. i did love all the stuff with helen's sister and family, and the screenwriting process was interesting to read about. but for a romance novel, i just wish the main romance seemed more realistic and dynamic.

quietly building panic until your ears pop. “You are a fever I am learning to live with, and everything is happening at the wrong end of a very long tunnel.” thank you jenn for letting me borrow

AMAZING. kind of the poppy war meets divergent meets dragons, but i'm not complaining! worldbuilding was insane, all the characters were so well drawn out, and kept me hooked the whole way through- i can't wait to read the next book!! my only issue was just how main character-y violet was: i understand the high death toll in this book was to show just how high the stakes were, but sometimes the amount of scrapes violet survived did become a bit too unrealistic?? other than that, i ADORED this novel, has definitely inspired me to go to the gym LMAO

objectively this is so horribly paced but i love this world and characters far too much to care. DRAGONS!
