i think i went into this book thinking it was a completely different vibe. it was definitely well written but it was slow and ultimately had no payoff. not for me, but definitely for someone

john douglas writes fantastically. his methodology and empathy come through every time. a tragic story that i had no idea about despite living very close to where it happened

i picked this up to learn about an italian serial killer. but instead of focusing on that douglas preston tells a story about how he got arrested in italy. it’s definitely an interesting story but not exactly what i was looking for

i enjoyed educated. westover's story is compelling and real in a way that is so distant for many people, but feels very real to us who have to choose between what we know is right and our family.

i'm not a non-fiction person usually, but i've always found the troubles incredibly interesting. this was wonderfully researched and informative in a way that wasn't deeply boring.

i’m a big fan of this main character. i usually don’t love books set this far back in time but the character felt fresh but still appropriate for the time period. i picked this book for a last of us display and it caught my eye and it totally scratched that itch. i listened to the audiobook and loved the narrator

this is a far cry from the usual books i pick up but i found myself totally engrossed. it’s a sci-fi premise with a focus on humanity that feels completely plausible. yes it’s cheesy but it’s also deeply human, all the characters felt genuine and i was so invested in each of them. it had me sobbing and angry and flipping pages dutifully. thinking about death is never easy but i really enjoyed this new approach to talking about it

it was ok for the first half, the writing was repetitive and leaned too heavily on being written by a 22 year old as if 22 year olds can’t be good writers and then completely ruined anything remotely redeemable abt the book in the last chapter. i don’t know why i keep giving stephen king second chances.
