I know, I know, it’s not really five star material, but I just enjoyed it so damn much. The sisters were amazing.

I really struggled with the writing and to care about what was happening. I wanted to like it since it was honey badger shifters, but it was incredibly difficult to follow 1) the dialogue to know who was speaking, and 2) how/why anything connected to anything else.

There are a lot of characters and plot lines going on here. It sets a good stage for sequels but you don't get to spend as much time with the main romance. As a result, you aren't as invested in their relationship.
Lots of wacky scenes and laughs, sometimes a bit too wacky, but in general a fun read. I question how this shifter population has managed to go undetected.
I am on the fence with continuing the series. Stevie/Shen might be too much to pass up on...

This was a fun serving of Shelly Laurenston crazy-sauce, including all of the things I was looking for. Empowered women who don't as permission, laugh out loud dialogue and situational comedy, and unapologetic insanity. I lost count of the number of times I had to stop reading, go find my teenage daughter, and share a line of dialogue or a hilarious exchange, just because I couldn't keep it in.

However, for me, it didn't quite soar to the heights of the Call of Crows trilogy - some of my favorite books in existence, but that is partially because of the narrative structure. Given everything going on in the world, getting solidly into this one required a little more effort than I was ready for. The opening scene was brilliant, but then we started getting an explosion of new characters, new points of view, and "in the deep end" world building. Getting hooked into The Unleashing was an easier road because we start the book with a single point of view character who knows NOTHING about her new existence, so we can ramp up with her.

I am very much looking forward to the rest of the series, and if her other shifter books are set in the same universe, I will enjoy exploring all of its various corners, because I do love her style, and now I have a much better grounding in the underlying assumptions of this universe.

Really really really good book, the writing style was a bit strange or at least not like other books I have read but as soon as I got used to it, I was hooked. I loved how bad ass and take no shit Charlie was, how psychotic max ist and I can’t wait to read the next book about Stevie hugging the panda.

This was a fun read. This was my first book by this writer. I wasn't expecting the story and the characters to be this bananas. It was awesome!

That was super fun to read.
Seriously though, no sex until like page 320. It was a long wait, but I appreciated the relationship building. It’s like a badass, feminist, paranormal romance with genuine, potentially lasting feelings. Wow.

those girls are nuts, like Fiona from burn notice but with honey badger DNA. But I loved them, all of the sisters. They have easily moved up to some of the characters I would most like to meet in real life. The romance was not as...well romancy, as I would have liked but the characters more than made up for it. Honestly, I could have done without the romance, though it is sweet they finally get a small taste of normal.
