sigh you can never go wrong with a historical romance, can you? especially when it's got a fake engagement trope.

The beginning was painfully slow and way too many characters were introduced. I refuse to dnf a book so I kept persevering. I became interested 65% into the book. I did not like how it was told from a 3rd person's narrative and the 1800s writing style choices made it hard for me to stay focused and understand what I was reading. The audiobook saved me from losing a brain cell trying to comprehend the words in front of me. Regency is not my favorite troupe and I felt like Hugh and Minerva didn't have a lot of chemistry. I did not care for the characters (except for Giles and Jerimiah) Also, are we not going to address how Giles missing for the whole story and shows up in the second to last chapter?? There was no angst, the spicy 1/5. Not my favorite book and will definitely forget about it.

I don’t think this book was necessarily bad, it just wasn’t for me. It’s longer than I want to read lately and I don’t usually enjoy love at first sight. Although it’s not COMPLETELY love at first sight, it’s still not very believable for me. It’s just not doing it for me. (i feel bad lol)

There are definitely a few lough out loud funny moments, but they don't quite measure up to the more boring character building in between.

To be honest I only started this because I accidentally rented it on Libby. I kept reading because I hate DNFing, and I honestly really enjoyed it! It’s a super quick cheesy predictable romance but had enough entertaining details to keep it interesting. I’d be inclined to read the next on in the series when it’s out!
