There is something so lyrical about Salman Rushdie's writing so that even of you know what's coming, you still keep singing along.

I wanted to like this book. In fact, I think I do? But I will be the first to admit that even though the narrator creates an enticing story, I got lost in the politics of it all. Politics play a major role in magical realism, but in no other similar book (that I have read, at least) have politics taken the forefront. Book 1 is wonderful. Book 2 is dense. Book 3 is a maze I'm still trying to find my way out of.

This book has been on my to-read list for years and I was so happy to find it on the bookshelf of the family for whom I am babysitting! It was a difficult but very enjoyable read, and I found myself pausing to re-read for clarification...but usually just to admire Rushdie's writing. SO good.
