This adorable rom-com was simply delightful. A story about a romance that is kindled by two people who have never met each other. Daniel sees Nadia on the Tube during his morning commute but cannot bring himself to even say hi. So he places an ad in the ‘Missed Connections” section of the paper.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The missed connections continue as the pair get to know each other bantering via the adverts. It reminded me a bit of the movie Serendipity. If you’re looking for a quick, modern rom-com set in London- pick it up. Very light on the steam.

What a lovely heartwarming read!
Started off a bit too similar to the shouty UK telly programmes from the noughties, but the quintessential British cosiness got through and provided me with a great read.
I often laughed out loud, occasionally shouted at the book, and was just really invested in this story.
Loved (or not loved, to be fair) the way Nadia and Daniel kept missing each other by minutes, but this only strengthened how they were meant to be.

A very cute rom-com with clear Nora Ephron inspiration. A little bit too contrived for me but an ideal summer read if you love a bit ( a lot!!) of romance.
I loved this book. I was invested in the two main characters from the first page and wanted screamed at them as they missed each other time and time again. I was like all the followers in the paper willing them on.
When I saw the comparisons to You've Got Mail, I had to read this book. Unfortunately, it didn't work for me. The thing I really enjoyed about You've Got Mail is that Kathleen and Joe knew each other. They were rivals who during the course of the movie become friends. There's a building of a relationship that makes you root for them as they discover things about each other while the anonymous writing to each is going on the side. This story was missing that element for me.
Daniel and Nadia communicate through the "Missed Connections" section of the newspaper dedicated to ads from people seeing each other on the tube (was that it? I was never really clear on that. There was a whole set of ads just for missed connections on the tube?) Anyways, they have a few near misses throughout the book but other than that they are going about their lives, meeting their friends, partying, working etc. for 80% of the book. Just not enough connection for me to come out strongly rooting for them.
So in that regard it was more like Sleepless in Seattle but instead of a cute little boy, he has a flatmate that's coked out and doesn't know the meaning of consent, and she has friends that act sketchy then disappear on her while, let's be honest, she's "me, me, me" so you can't really blame them. In addition, there was this random point of view thrown in from this other character near the end of the book along with some extraneous information about other friends/characters that seemed a little much. I'll assume that these are characters in the author's other books? and maybe the new guy will be another book? Oddities. Ultimately, this was not for me.

I thought the premise sounded fun, but this is actually my least favorite kind of romcom--where we're repeatedly told these two people would/will have this magical connection because they're soooooo meant to be and the universe wants them together but then they have near-misses for hundreds of pages (or 80ish minutes; think Sleepless in Seattle or Serendipity).
Unfortunately I didn't get into this book. Although I did finish it the story line did not keep me interested and I am happy its over :/
Read If :
- you like romances where the characters don't immediately start talking about how sexy the other one is
- you like a slow burn romance as the characters don't actually meet for ages they are just flirting through the Missed Connections newspaper column
Avoid If :
- you hate miscommunication (I think it's done pretty well in this book though)
- you can't stand to read embarrassing moments (there are a lot)
- you are looking for a romance with spice
- you don't want to read about an abusive relationship in the past or the death of a parent right now
I didn't really have any expectations going into this book but I definitely thought the premise was cool. I was pleasantly surprised with how the male MC didn't start immediately only being attracted to the female MC for her appearance as I feel like a lot of the romances I've read the past year have been exactly that. However, it was really just a meh romance.
The female MC could be annoying at times. For example, she put down another woman for wearing winged eyeliner and press on nails.
Also, I didn't really like how AI was talked about a lot in this book as it is the female MCs job but I'm really against it and the author seemingly acknowledged the bad parts of AI (like people losing jobs) but then came to its defence immediately after and it just felt weirdly out of place in this book. If that wasn't her job, it would have made no difference to the plot so I don't really know why it's there and talked about quite a bit.
Overall, this book was just pretty forgettable for me (I'm writing this review days later and struggling to remember parts already) but it was a fun time reading it.

A strong start. I was excited for this premise as I hadn't read anything like it before. Half way through it lost me a bit as it felt like the characters were going in circles. The ending was enjoyable though and left me with a smile on my face. 3.5 stars.
