WOW. This book was a huge surprise for me.
I was super excited to read this book; the synopsis completely grabbed my attention and the short excerpt that was released with the cover totally hooked me. I feel like I’ve been waiting forever for this story of a group of chosen ones after they’ve saved humanity.
Part one was exactly what I was expecting from this novel, exactly what I wanted. And I absolutely loved it. I was glued to the pages, learning about Sloane and her gang and how they’re all dealing and coping after their world-saving shenanigans. I loved seeing how their chosen one journey unfolded.
Then I hit part two. And it all changed, it was different than what I was expecting, wanting, from this book. I was leery, I was hesitant, I was curious. But despite all of that, I kept reading. Because I simply couldn’t put this book down. Even as I was hesitant, I kept reading because I had to. And within just a few pages, I was hooked all over again and loving this new route the book took, even though it was something I wasn’t necessarily wanting when it started.
I LOVED it. Really loved it. I loved the characters, the past story, the present story, the plot, the world, the strange directions the book ended up taking, the messages, the journeys, the development. It was so freaking good. I can’t wait to see where the sequel takes us.

I really wanted this book to be a successful chosen one story with a twist, but I was not convinced. This is one of those books where I think I will enjoy the sequels more than the original. I had trouble following the story because the plot moved along fairly quickly, with lots of new characters being introduced. I never believed in the villain or their intent and that made it hard to believe in a chosen one. This book did a great job of setting up a new crazy world for the next book, but the set up in this one felt clumsy and forced. I still enjoyed the world building, but wish more focus had been placed on character development and a slower timeline.
As someone who really enjoyed the Divergent series until Allegiant, I was skeptical about becoming emotional invested in another group of characters only to have an ending that sucks. I was also a little worried about this book being cliché and overdone. I mean, the title is “Chosen Ones.” Could it be more cliche? But I was pleasantly surprised. The book is slow paced, but very well-written and the pace allows readers to feel more connected to the characters and to understand the relationship the “Chosen Ones” have with each other after saving the world. I really enjoy the intimate details of Sloane’s mind as she deals with PTSD. The ending was good, but it wasn’t amazing. Based on Roth’s other works, I wondered whether this would turn into a series, but to me, the ending tied up any loose ends. Overall, would definitely recommend.

3.5 This was a very enjoyable read and it felt good to read a fantasy standalone for once. I'll admit that i like the idea of this book more than the execution of it but i'll rate it 4 stars anyways. I absolutely loved to read about the lives of heroes after they defeated the bad guy. The way it was done felt very real and i loved how it subtly yet obviously addressed some issues that heroes would face in our world such as racism and sexism. It was also really refreshing to read about a morally grey character who didn't pretend to be a saints and actually was honest with the fact that she could be selfish and self-serving. I found that i could recognise myself through some of her behavior (should i be concerned ?) which really doesn't happens often with me.
I still with the "introduction part" had been shorter and the romance way longer though.

I liked this even though I'm not sure it was good. I don't think all the pieces quite fit together but the overall picture turned out okay.
fast-paced
I enjoy! Fast read, I liked the world building! I wanted more
