What an absolute SLOG this book was to get through, which is really disappointing, because Uglies was so much fun.

This book though... 75% of it was boring as heck. Just like Pretty life must be boring as heck. The last 25% of the book was a page turner, but the journey to get there was awful.

And then the book ended with ANOTHER cliffhanger. I said to myself - I don't want to read another one of these books if it's going to be like this. And then by the end, I wanted to know what happened next. However, I'll be taking a little break from the series before I do that.

The slang in this book was too annoying and my favorite character from the first book was hardly even in this one. I am done with this series but might recommend it to my middle school daughter.

Tally is finally pretty. She turned sixteen, had the operation, and moved to New Pretty Town. Now her appearance is perfect in every way, and her only job is to party and have fun all the time. She's got her friends Peris and Shay with her, and life can't get any better. So why does she feel like she's missing something? She keeps thinking about her time out in the Smoke, where people keep their Ugly faces and live in the wild, with barely any technology. The conditions are horrible there, so why can't Tally stop brooding over her vague memories of the place? When some of the Smokies come back, with a letter the old Tally wrote to herself, it becomes clear that there's a lot more to New Pretty Town, the operation, and the Smoke than Tally remembers. And there's a reason why she can't remember--because her brain was altered during the operation, just like every other Pretty. Once again, Tally finds herself at odds with the City and its cruel-pretty Specials, and she'll do anything to get out.

After reading "Uglies," "Pretties" was a disappointment for me. Tally gets on my nerves a lot more in this one. She still shows a lot of strength, but she's more whiny in "Pretties." Also, the plot is much slower, with far less action until the end. And the whole "savages" thing didn't sit well with me. Worst of all, a big love triangle is formed in this one, and I am so sick of those. Despite all these complaints, I did enjoy the story. I like where the series is going (except for the love triangle) and it ends with a big surprise and a cliffhanger. I'm definitely going to be finishing the series because I'm invested enough that I want to see what happens, but I don't have super high expectations.

The language, repeated overuse of "bubbly," was distracting. Otherwise, it was a fun book to read. Now waiting on 3rd book to come in at the library. :)

I was disappointed by this book.

In the beginning and about 3 quarters through, I was just a little disappointed. By the end, I was very disappointed. Enough that I'm not going to be finishing the series. And here are th reasons why:

1. The Pace: The pace of the book was slow. The thing that was supposed to happen during the first quarter didn't happen until the last quarter. It was too filler-y. I was going to say that this book was like a bridge that you had to cross to get from one island to the other, from Uglies to Specials, that is. But then I realized that I didn't want to go to the other island. So basically, I crossed the bridge for no reason.

2. The repetitiveness: The first time Tally fell some high place was new and cool. The first time she got caught or changes or even excaped was the same way. But if the same things keep happening over and over again, it gets annoying. Meaning
SpoilerTally turning Pretty was a nice twist, her turning Special is just recycled. Repetitive.

3. The Romance: I didn't like the whole Zane thing. I don't hate Zane (I tried to, though) because he's a decent guy, but I don't like the relationship focus. And I hate love triangles. So there's that.

Other than these major things, I also got annoyed with the word "bubbly" by the end. I didn't necessarily mind it in the beginning, but it got tiring, like a lot of ther things in the series.

I wanna say that I like Tally, she's a good character and I like seeing her journey and her perpective, but not enough to continue with the series. She's a cool character, but she's not exactly Percy Jackson (which means that if there was a book about her watching grass grow, I wouldn't read it.)

Finally, I wanted to add that this was not a bad book. It was a good book (hence the 3 stars) but I didn't like it. A lot of the things that happened pissed me off and I hated the ending. But just because it wasn't for me, doesn't mean it's not for anyone else.

And for that reason, I still do recommend the series. The first book, at least, was very good.

Dystopic world where people get surgery at 16, and now Tally has had hers. But can somoene who went through her life in Uglies really be happy as a Pretty? Well, that's what this book is about. Bubbly.

As the name suggests, Tally is pretty. And she lives now with other pretties and she acts pretty, but, fortunately, only for a little while at the beginning. Then she is "cured", or she tries to be cured, and to escape, along with Zane, a pretty who doesn't want to think pretty any more. Now, I liked how Tally has transformed into a confident heroine, even though she is not completely herself. Plus, she tries to be the leader of her group, or ends up being the leader, because "she is Tally Youngblood" duh! (didn't really like Tally that way) But the twists towards the end were excellent. I didn't really enjoy the "bubbly" ness, though. To be more specific, I didn't like the constant repeating of being bubbly, or trying to be bubbly. Another negative was that the plot was kind of boring towards the middle of the book, but it got better quickly, so it didn't spoil the rest of the book for me!! Anyway, Pretties weren't as good as Uglies, but I really enjoyed reading this book. The pace was quick and the writing simple and clean, like I would like it to be for this kind of book. It felt like it was effortless, and the writer didn't get into too many details about the universe he created, which can become tiring and destroy the plot. So kudos for that
