TWs: sexual harassment, mentions of past domestic violence
Pity, the story was interesting but I didn’t love the romance and the relationship between the heroine and hero, I liked that he was always quite understanding of why she was that way but other than that there was no chemistry between them and what even is sexual tension?

A escrita da autora não me cativou muito e achei as primeiras 100-150 páginas um tanto aborrecidas.
Se não fosse pequenino, teria-o deixado a meio.
Não irei continuar com a saga provavelmente. :(

Chase Radnor has met his match in Minerva Hepplewhite. When he sneaks into her house during an investigation into her identity, she knocks him out and ties him up. However, the two find that they share not only past suspicions but a fondness for investigating. As the two become closer, they continue to look into the untimely death of Chase's uncle who also left Minerva a substantial inheritance much to the chagrin of the family.
This first book in the series does a nice job of balancing mystery and romance and sets up an ongoing storyline.

Thank you to NetGalley and Kensington Books for granting me an advance copy of Heiress for Hire!
I blew through this book! The characters were enjoyable and the overall plot line engaging (I look forward to the next books in the series and learning more about the family and mystery at the heart of the story). Two things I found frustrating: 1: the female protagonist at times felt a little flat as a character, especially when it came to some of the central conflict with her character and the male protagonist; 2: I was very disappointed that the central mystery of the story wasn’t resolved before the end. I hope it will be resolved in the future (and I understand why it wasn’t - get people to read the other two books to come) because I get frustrated with stories that don’t resolve the issues they present.
What I liked: the family (on both sides) and the potential for further development of those story lines in the future; the independent nature of the female protagonist (though I would have liked a bit more focus on her business - again, I hope we hear more in the future installments); the focus on healthy, consensual relationships.
As I’ve said a few times, I look forward to more books in the series to see where things go!

Chase Radnor is investigating the mysterious death of his uncle and finds some of his bequests to strangers suspicious. Minerva is one of the legatees and has some mystery in her own backstory. The two team up to investigate the death and also find out more about the other.
It's a fairly typical historical romance, enjoyable to read with interesting characters. I expect we'll find the murderer in the third book of the series, but I'm willing to take the ride with the three young women who'll feature in the series as the unknowing legatees of the duke.
