However, no one died, except the bad guy. When it comes to fantasy books with a war/battle-type conflict, its expected that there are some casualties, but there were none, and I think a death would have been beneficial to the story (obviously I am not talking about the death of one of the main characters).
Other than that I really liked the writing, this world and all the topics depicted by the author troughout the books.

I'm in a bit of a reading slump right now, but I think in another point of my life, I may have rated this book higher. I love Nisha's books and have read all of them, and Trial of the Sun Queen (the first installment of this series) was one of my favorites of the year I read it!
I had a bit of trouble staying in tune with all of the different plot points going on, and connecting it to the other books. But this may be because I read them as they came out and no in sequence. I will always be a Lor and Nadir stan and I loved how their relationship came to full fruition in this installment. The ending of this book took after SJM and was absolutely action packed!!
I will continue to read all of Nisha's books, but i'm sad this series is over!

Happy Release Day!
This book is a whirlwind culmination of this series. All the pieces are coming together, and Lor and Nadir are fighting for their lives and for the potential peaceful future they could have, if they are able to overcome the Aurora King (Nadir's father) and Zerra (the previously thought benevolent goddess).
I love how deliciously complex this series is with multiple rulers all in various states of goodness and badness. Plus, there are flashbacks from the "original" rulers of these lands, and their goodness or badness. Plus, there is Nadir and Lor who are fighting against people who would use them only for their power. But what limits are they placing on themselves and their power, so that they stay on the side for good. Do the ends always justify the means?
I love series like this, that make me question my own morality and the morality of others. Plus, I enjoy the complexity of having so many characters and moving parts.
I can't wait to read more from Ms. Nisha Tuli, now that I've finished this amazing series!

Well dang. I wasn't sure about this series when I first started it, but I am really glad I stuck with it, because that was quite the finale. I can't give it 5 stars because there were some pacing issues for me, but I laughed, I cried, I wanted to hug a lot of people, and in the end, I am so happy!
I felt that the first third was too slow, the middle third was fantastic, and the final third was too rushed. While we had hints in Book 3 that a certain First King might become more significant, I wish we had more time to get to know/hate him and to learn more about the Underworld.
The character development is what saved the series for me. Lor grew from a whiny, annoying, entitled little girl in the first book into a formidable FMC. It took a while, but I was finally rooting for her. Nearly every other character goes on a significant journey as well, and I really grew to love Nadir, Amya, Gabriel, Tristan, Willow, and many others.
Check the trigger warnings!
