Meet Cute

Take every “Meet Cute” romantic comedy cliche and trope -

- Handsome ex-child Star turned lawyer
- Successful female lawyer
- A life changing event introducing a precocious tween
- A somewhat villainous boss and an evil aunt
- Random situations that force the two leads together

Throw it all together, and remove any form of subtlety, charm, brains and good writing - and you have this horrible clunker.

The sex scenes are ridiculous. All the characters are brainless, boring stereotypes. The narration is utterly vapid. And the guy’s name is DAXTON?! Come onnnnn. It also seems to set feminism back a few hundred years.

I would be screaming mad if I didn’t pick it up as part of a 2 for 1 credit Audible deal.

There is nothing cute about this “Meet Cute.” You’ll want to wish you met another book after suffering through this charmless piece of claptrap.

DID NOT FINISH: 24%

Very unlawyer-like behavior--"the best student throughout law school" who can't keep her mouth shut about her celebrity client and his minor sister and blabs about them in very public places. (I was willing to try to overlook that.)
Also, gross,  catty descriptions of other women. (Nope. I'm done.)
Also, why does she keep referring to Daxton as his sister's dad? That's weird and icky. He's her guardian. Not her dad.

A little too predictable…

3.5 stars.

Something that bothered me at first but eventually grew on me was Helena Hunting's device of slowly providing critical information. It was obnoxious at first, wondering why she would choose to withhold information or drop a clue in from seemingly out of nowhere but I came to accept it and recognized the book for what it was: A light, beach read with a fluffy romance.

Like any other fluffy romance, girl meets boy, misunderstandings abound, but that sexual tension overwhelms everything and you get some steamy passages. What I appreciate of this book is that it's full of consensual activity, with our make protagonist constantly asking if this is okay or if that's okay to do. Consent is sexy.

I read this basically in one go during a 5.5 hour plane ride, which isn't recommended because I was paranoid that someone would read over my shoulder during some of the more risqué pages. But the characters were likable and I found myself rooting for everyone at the end, a sign of a well-liked book!

i don’t want to write a review for this. to be honest, i skim read the last 1/4 of the book because i lost interest but just had to power through it.

way better executed romcoms to read than this.

I didn’t manage to get to Meet Cute before it was published and therefore bought it when it came out. Yes, I’m still in a minor mood with my Kindle! But just look at that cover, why wouldn’t I buy it?!
In all honesty, I’d forgotten what this book was about by the time I got to it, so I was going in blind. However, I was hooked from the first chapter. I loved the meet cute between Kailyn and her teenage crush, a former actor, Daxton Hughes. It sounds like a total train wreck and exactly like the kind of thing that would happen to me (minus the celeb).
Although not necessarily an original storyline, I love Helena’s spin on this. Her writing style is everything I love about contemporary romances and I couldn’t put the book down because of this.
I especially loved that there were two POV, both from Kaylin and Daxton. I think it really brought the story to life and it wouldn’t have been nearly as good without this. I also enjoyed the not-so PG13 scenes as well. They’re something that, on occasion, can make me feel a bit uncomfortable, but these were well written and really added to the story.
I adored Meet Cute so much more than I thought I would. I highly recommend to fans of Lindsey Kelk, Mhairi McFarlane, and Lucy Vine. I rated this 5/5 stars.

This book is so adorable! I absolutely loved the premise of this story and the way it all came together. A new favorite for sure.

A decent read but I felt myself losing interest near the end. It became very rushed in plot after the main characters hooked up sexually. That made me sad because in that way? It felt like old bodice ripper romance novels. Blah.
