Meet Cute

Helena Hunting

3.62 AVERAGE

This was a cute rom-com with some real world problems and some great lines.

However, I'm taking off a star for the annoying (creepy?) infatuation the heroine has for the sitcom character the hero played as a teen. It was so weird and made me question her judgement in general.

I'd read more from this author. Especially in this fluffy audiobook stage I'm currently in.

This story had me feeling all kinds of emotions.
First, I loved the push-pull between Kailyn and Daxton. After a chance meeting in college, they find that they are in the same law classes which leads to some competition between them.
Years later, they run into each other again after Kailyn feels as though Daxton had betrayed her and you get a little of the enemies to lovers feel. I was cruising along enjoying a sure to be funny rom com from Helena Hunting and then BAM! She totally hits me with all the emotions and feels. This story has so much depth and ultimately turns into a bit of a mystery. There is almost nothing sexier than a protective older brother. I could really feel genuine emotion amongst all of the characters, they completely tugged at my heartstrings. I couldn't put this book down!

3.5 stars.

very cute and entertaining story! a super quick read! kind of read like a fanfic & definitely was way more “tell” than “show ” but i kind of liked the simplicity. it was cute and i was interested in the story enough :)

This was more a heartfelt second chance romance with aspects of funny and sweet than a rom-com, per se, which is more what I was expecting from the cover. Not that I'm complaining!! I enjoyed it! Just more evidence to not judge a book by it's cover, I suppose, eh?

I'd read a few other Helena Hunting books - steamy hockey romances, primarily - and knew that I loved her writing style so I figured I'd give this one a shot. I'm happy I did even if it took a few chapters to really hit it's stride. It tugged at my heartstrings, had great main and secondary character relationships - which I love. It makes you really feel like the world you're temporarily inhabiting is fully realized.

There was some predictability with the Aunt Linda storyline but even that I didn't mind. It didn't necessarily enthrall me but it was a fun, surprisingly emotional read from an author I enjoy and would definitely recommend.

It was OK. There were some nice moments and I actually adored the characters of Emme and Holly, and sometimes Dax, but Kailyn...wow. I really found her deep grudge for Dax and distrust of his intentions based on one college slip up to be over the top. It just seemed overly petty, especially after so much time. It poisoned her from the start for me and was very hard to recover from, especially as she then started using the partnership promotion as an excuse to further insert herself into Dax and Emme's personal lives. It was as if such an accomplished lawyer had no sense of professional boundaries and no ability to say no. If this was any other client she would never have come over regularly for dinner and personal outings.

And then there was the resolution, it was just so quick without a real conversation about what happened and why, simply "she helped uncover dirt about my aunt, she's here now and i want her back". I always hate when these books sidestep the real conversation about hurt, broken trust, and how to repair it. You can't just have sex and then see if she still takes the partnership.

This whole book just read like a continuos 'dear diary' of horny adults salavating over each other anytime they weren't in bed together. Not for me.

It is a hate to love romance and I am exploring that I really have a thing for hate to love romances. It kind of gives me a kick and jolly’s my mood. I am sad that it is a standalone. I would really love to know more about the couple and how their after life is but it is good too because it ended happily and that was good enough.
I loved how the book went from Fangirl to friends then to enemies and then to lovers and it was just amazing. It was developed very very simply and plot was crazily interesting. It was a cute fun romance being not cheesy but funny. It was captivating and steamy and funny and embarrassing (for characters).
I listened to the audiobook while reading it and I love the characters and how they were formed in my mind. I adore their personalities and I think it gave a really good weight to the story. I obviously recommend this to all.

Did not finish this one. I liked some of Helena Hunting’s other books but found the h to be manipulative, immature and unethical especially when dealing with custody of a teenager. DNF’d at chapter 7

I thought this book was really sweet and I enjoyed how the author connected her past trauma and created a beautiful story connecting the two worlds. I really loved how the book flowed from one scene to another however I found the ending predictable. Villainizing the aunt was too be expected and her gambling problem was a nice touch. This book definitely reminds me of a hallmark movie but the only thing different is the raunchiness of the two main characters. It was a good read if you do want something that leaves you with a good feeling after reading it.

Took a while to get into it. Hard themes of loss. How to raise a teenager, family drama. Fast-forwarded through a few steamy parts but overall I enjoyed!
