Wow

I could not put this book down. Such a page turner. Felt the anxiety of the character. Finished it in 2 days

Great writing but very disturbing story.

Very harrowing emotionally, but once I'd started I felt I had to finish it just to get closure. It was a good page-turner.

I'm bad at writing reviews, so I'll just write what I think and feel. The first 70% of the book is purely bad writing. I was struggling from chapter to chapter. I had even attempted on DNFing the rest of the book at around 30% through, but I figured I should give it a chance, especially when I've been ditching so many books in the past year.

I truly dislike the main character- Catherine. There were a few remarks made by Lee that had accurately described Catherine's character, such as "quick to give up". I was so annoyed when she allowed herself to be treated so badly by him without even putting up a fight in the slightest and she had also seemed very naive and a little dumb for being too trusting with a man she barely knew and why would a woman trust a man who keeps a secret about what he does for a living and shows up at your door with blood on his face?

As for Lee... another pathetic character. The only thing that's worth anything about him is his looks (from what we can all summarised by all the raves about his physique and gorgeous looks from all the characters in the book). Aside from the looks, a rotten human being with mental illness. That's all. It was also kind of funny that the author was making Lee sounded like some kind of a superhuman who possessed every kind of power to bring the main character down when he was just a police officer.

Stuart... hurm.... this guy is the cliche good guy who accepts everything about a broken girl and also a hero to the girl, but I was a little disappointed when he didn't get to help Catherine to fight off Lee at the end, but perhaps the author's intention was to make only Catherine herself the heroine who fights her own battles to the end.

the part that I struggled the most with this book was the OCD part. I don’t discriminate anyone who has OCD, it's just that I found that the OCD behaviour in this book was SO repetitive up to a point where I felt like I was re-reading the same chapter over and over again. reading about a person re-checking her house again and again and again and again is exhausting and I got so sleepy and I actually fell asleep a few times. and those spontaneous outbursts of Cathy's... urgh!

Ever heard of a home security system? should've opted for that in Catherine's house instead of using the conventional door lock (oh well...what do I know?).

Need I mention the flawed characters of Cathy's friends? oh god... they were awful. WTH, Sylvia..?

the best part of the book was the fight between Cathy and Lee at towards the end, although I did expect it to come sooner than it did. and I also expected it to be a bit longer... like maybe move the fight to the outdoors or something. lol

all in all... the last 30% was alright, and the first 70% was quite a torture. if it weren't for the ending, this book would've been the worst book I've ever read. no kidding.

I originally stumbled upon it through the Target Book Club and I must say, I was very pleased with this choice! At first I was a bit put off by the past-present format but once you get into the meat of the story, it stopped bothering me. The storyline is captivating! I do most of my reading at night and once Lee's stalker like tendencies become apparent, I had the urge to check my windows and locks (I admit, I might have checked them more than once).

I found it dark and intense as situations like these happen often. Some scenes are brutal and you honestly begin fearing for Catherine's well being. If you're a compassionate reader you might even find yourself picking up some of her OCD habits..

I would definitely recommend this book. Although I must issue a TRIGGER WARNING: this book covers rape and emotional/physical abuse.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

This is definitely a beach read but it is not lighthearted. This is a very disturbing yet seemingly realistic interpretation of a young woman in an abusive relationship. Not for the faint of heart.

So I randomly was in the bookstore going around just picking up books that looked interesting. This book looked cool from the cover, so I flipped it over, and read about it. I wanted/needed to read this book. I thought about buying it but it was too much for me, so I ended up getting it from the library. I have to tell you I loved, hated, cried, screamed, cheered, and hoped for this book. I could not put it down and when it ended I mourned. Being someone who was in a past relationship where someone used fists to show how much they loved me I related to all the stuff happening to Cathy. I loved how the story went from today to 3 years before with Lee. Each Cathy was different in the years. I simply loved this book. So sad but what a GREAT book!!!

This dйbut novel was recommended to me , and I downloaded it within ten seconds to my Kindle ( top tip - a Kindle , or other e reader, will bankrupt you, if you're anything like me ) , and I'm glad I did.

Its about Catherine Bailey , a woman with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder , and its presented in two timelines - a little weird at first but I was into it within the first few pages. It feels like two plots in one, due to this , and it all wraps up neatly at the end. Or does it?

Loved it, couldn't put it down and read it in just a few days - a proper page turner, highly recommend. I look forward to Elizabeth Haynes next novel

Holy crap. That's all I can say. This book is riveting and disturbing from beginning to end. While it's not so much about the twists and turns or mystery - you know who the bad guy is pretty quickly, it keeps you engaged from page one. Near impossible to put down, this book is a terrifyingly amazing psychologically thrilling novel. I can't wait to read other books by Elizabeth Haynes.

PS I am totally loving this trend of British detectives who are lesbians, even when they're relationships are just throw-away lines.

DNF at 34%

Nothing wrong with the book, it just deals with very heavy themes that I’m not being able to process right now. Will definitely give it another try when I’m in a better head mental space bc the MC is awesome.
