I really enjoyed this book, I only knocked off two stars because it felt as though a few storylines went on too long and some of the scenes were rushed. I look forward to seeing more of the authors work, as I believe it will only get better!

it felt like an easy read, was never boring to me. it was quite intense and scary at times, it also has a lot of detailed rape scenes so careful for that.
overall I liked the character development and the relationships between the characters by the end of the book

Graphic: Physical abuse, Rape, Gaslighting
Moderate: Sexual assault
2.5 or 3 ⭐️ There are quite a few things wrong with this book, although there are some things I did like. The plot, though, is too used at this point that it’s not even interesting writing a review about such an average book!

Originally read in 2012 and rated 5.0.
Into the Darkest Corner was a totally amazing, basically perfect thrill ride through the life of a woman with severe anxiety and OCD! I adored every single thing about this book! Catherine was a fantastic (if unreliable) main character and her issues were something I could honestly identify with as someone with anxiety also. The story is not truly horror, but the suspense kept me up late at night and (if we're being honest) jumping at shadows when I read in the dark. It isn't often that I read and love a contemporary thriller, but this one really surprised me! This one will remain on my shelf for a future re-read for sure!

It is a total page-turner!
I know that the gist of the story is not unique. There are lots of books like this one, but this is so gripping you just cannot put it down.
Would have been five glowing stars, but I feel like there's a significant chunk missing from the story. The premise describes Lee as too perfect to be true, charming, mysterious and gorgeous. Well, the latter might be true, but as a reader, I never saw his charming side. He also wasn't mysterious, he was secretive and creepy from the start. So much so that I had a hard time seeing why Catherine or her friends liked him. Their relationship moved WAY too fast to be believable. He showed his true colours around 1.5 months into their relationship, at which point I think no sane woman is so invested as to stay with a violent man. Catherine was a young woman who loved to go out partying, not a woman in her thirties desperate to get married and settle down, so her putting up with his shit just made no sense. The guy also didn't meet her friends so much to warrant their reactions to Catherine wanting to end it. If a friend you have known for years tells you she's scared, will you convince her to stay because a guy is gorgeous or will you help her escape? Why would they take the side of a random guy she's been with for a few months? Who ACTUALLY does that? Had there been more interactions between the guy and her friends, it would have made more sense.
However, I loved that it was a mix of a psychological thriller and romance and like I said, it's really gripping, so I can forgive the fact that a big part of the plot seems implausible to me.

It was really long and some parts were a bit tedious but overall a really good book and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Different than other psychological thrillers I've read, and I really liked the OCD representation-- I felt that it was really accurate.
This book was 14 hours long on audible and I was going to ditch it but decided to cut out 5 hours worth instead and fast forwarded to the last few chapters.
The first half is very long and repetitive based on a sort of romance where the two characters were not very interesting. Only the end was a thriller and even that was just ok.

Very good thriller, quite scary and disturbing. I really liked the narrative, flashing back to Cathy meeting Lee, and then to Cathy having survived Lee. I thought the OCD and PTSD were handled nicely. There were a few small issues, life how all of Cathy's friends were so desperate for a decent man that they were willing to believe Lee's lies. The audio was quite good, although there are lots violent scenes, sex scenes and f bombs so you might want to listen with the windows up in you car so as not to startle some dude walking in your neighborhood like I did. ;)
