I couldn’t engage with this book. There are a lot of characters introduced from the jump. The story was a slow build, that I lost interest.

adventurous challenging dark emotional funny inspiring mysterious tense fast-paced

A scavenger hunt of a story with high stakes and a super realistic and awful villain. This was the perfect sort of witch book to enjoy. I loved it beginning to end. All the characters felt interesting and fully fleshed out, even the horrible creepy witch hunter. I hope there is more in this world. I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Refreshing and intriguing. There's action, world building, and genuine constraints from the real world more than invented magic ones (elder care, dysfunctional relationships, female bonding, child care, exhaustion, addiction).

Given that there are 10 interesting and reasonably well developed characters, it is criminal if this does not become book 1 of a series. That's a lot of work for the reader and author that isn't needed for a standalone novel but would be a great investment for a series.
