The author’s prose in this book was an absolute highlight. Such a way with words and not only did she put you right in the mind of every single POV that occurred, but she did so and described things in unique ways I haven’t seen used before. Reading a lot in one genre you tend to see certain things described or written about frequently, and sometimes certain tropes/phrases/ideas get repeated frequently. This book had such a clear voice and characters that were both vibrant and new while also being familiar and relatable. If I wasn’t reading a library copy my book would be COVERED in tabs and annotations from so many poignant and gorgeous lines and passages.

Only thing keeping it from a 5 was how uncomfortable I felt during parts of the final confrontation between the protagonist and villain. Just had so much indescribable ick whenever they exchanged any dialogue. Which is a strength for the villain I guess, but it was a lot for me.

Venco is perfect for those who need a reminder that we are capable of much more than we think.

However, the book overall let me down a bit as it didn’t feel nearly as witchy as I had hoped it would be. I loved the concept of the coven coming together with each new woman that was added, but still, there seemed to be very little magic and a lot of drama. The overall pacing of the book seemed to be off, making it hard to immerse in the book entirely.

While I completely understand that this was intentional, I found the chapters from Jay Christos's perspective to be icky and unnerving—by the end of the book, I ended up skipping them because they were just disturbing.

Read if you enjoy:

👏🏼Found family

While I would love to recommend Venco, it just didn’t live up to the hype I had for it. Ultimately, I would recommend reading The Change instead of this one.

Nothing really happens in the whole book. It was all about it getting started though I did enjoy the getting started

This is more like a 3.5, because it was very fun but wrapped up very suddenly. But after so many 3⭐️ semi-duds in a row, I was feeling generous and rounded up to 4.
