I thought this was even better than the Game of Thrones. Loved it . Of course it leaves you hanging so you have to read the next book.

It's so nice that theon greyjoy is just a happy guy who is always smiling.

the shift from A Game of Thrones to this is crazy. AGOT is such a fast paced thriller that this in comparison feels like a lot of thumb-twiddling. that said, GRRM really can write when he wants to, and from the battle of the blackwater on, this taps back into that rollicking drama that made AGOT such a fun and engaging read. also: tyrion’s great in this one, cat’s great in this one, and brienne shows up in this one. for being much more of a chore there’s really a load of like, important groundwork being laid here.

this second volume was a much slower read! I did race through the last 150 pages, but was unsatisfied with the ending. I know book 3 exists. but book 2 could have used a finale

Started this one back on Great Barrier Island and then left and never finished it - I didn't want to travel with a large book and then finish it and have to lug it around. Then once I got into work and finally signed up for the library, this was the book that kicked me back into reading! Much of the same views as the first book but slightly less of a captivating end. Perhaps that was because I was reading this as an e-book and didn't have the physical feeling of nearing the end to spur me through the last chapter but also this last chapter definitely wasn't as good as the first book. Putting this series on hold for a second for the book club book and for the hunger games book I've borrowed from Lily - but I will return and finish this series by the end of the year!

It dragged a little bit for me in the middle of this book, which is why only 4 stars, but picked up again at the end (to get me to want to read the next book of course!). I definitely enjoy some of the character perspectives better than others. I'll definitely continue with the series, but think I'll read a few other books in between.
