George gets 2 stars for writing good dialogue & complex characters, but he loses 3 stars for writing incompressible, arduous prose.

George, write screenplays instead.

I enjoyed this, though not as much as I liked A Game of Thrones. The battle scenes that made up a lot of the second half were not terribly interesting, especially as I found it hard to keep track of who is who among the minor characters. Also, having two main(ish) characters who are missing half of their hand is just confusing. Also, there was not nearly enough about Daenerys, who is my favorite in this series. Hopefully that will be remedied in the next book.

I found it hard to get through the first book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series because it was replicated so well by the TV show. This changed in book 2 however where there were several plot differences. I enjoyed the book, from its detailed gory passages to its vivid descriptions of new environments. The book leaves me excited for the next installment, A Storm of Swords.

Wow, I have a lot of things to say about this book. First of all i freaking love the women's chapters and all the women in this book, from Daenerys to Cersei, they are so well written, can't wait to read Cersei's chapters in affc.
I loved this book so much more than "a game of thrones", maybe because i was more bonded to the character but Idk. It's a bit complicated and more heavy then i expected but it was worth the reading.
So excited to read asos.
