4.5 maybe? This series improves with each book, I'm certainly excited for the Memory of Light but I'm going to take a break from the series for at least a month. So satisfying to finally have some major character and plot arc resolved. I won't say what those are for people who haven't read this book yet but you can probably figure out what they are as they've been broadcasting a few of them for the past couple of books, and by the horribly spoiler-y Darrell K. Sweet book cover (seriously, whomever the artist is for the digital versions of these books deserves major kudos). Much of this book concerns a few of the main characters, Rand, Perrin, and Egwene having to make pretty significant character decisions that effect the rest of the world. Rand's change started at the end of Gathering Storm and you see that continue through this book. Also, we finally get back to the Black Tower, which has been mysteriously ignored for 2 1/2 books it feels like (if not longer), so good on that, and there's more resolution with Perrin and the Wolf Dream and the Whitecoats. All around, a very satisfying, if very long book.

MOIRAINE IS FINALLY FREE AND BACK. SO EXCITED.

Towers of Midnight started off very strong, and it really seemed as if we were developing some of the myriad plot lines to a conclusion. Unfortunately, much like the last book, it got bogged down in the middle with a lot of filler. The ending, when we got to it, then seemed rushed . . . as if Sanderson realised he was running out of pages.
Although he has done an admirable job of picking up a long running series, and has managed to emulate Jordan's style very well, I really wonder about the decision to expand Jordan's final book into a trilogy. The official story is that Sanderson had too much material for a single book, but I suspect the decision had more to do with the publisher and dollar signs.
With 2 books down and 1 to go, there is clearly a very strong, 5-star book hidden amidst the fluff. I just wish we could have gotten the author's preferred, single-volume, abridged edition.
