3.5 stars** I enjoyed the writing and plot of this book more than its predecessor. Each character’s struggles were interesting to read about. I enjoyed the darker themes and higher stakes of the plot. While there was still some cringey dialogue, it was improved.
The second book in the trilogy is beautifully written like all of Stiefvater's other books, but I didn't enjoy this one as much as the first. That said I still liked it. This is the continuing story of Sam and Grace, but new characters are injected into the story giving it a twist. Sam is now in charge of the house and he is having to deal with a lot of things at once and is having difficulty juggling his new responsibilities along with the fact that he is now human. There are definitely a few twists and turns I wasn't expecting and I am looking forward to reading the last book.
Wow. Linger picks up right where Shiver left off. It picked up in the best way possible by making it into an even better story. It was wonderful to actually see all the characters from the first book growing along with the introduction of Cole St. Claire who I feel gave the book a new stronger male character just what it needed. If you liked Shiver then you should read Linger. I was more iffy on the whole story after reading the first book, but I'm now very excited to read the last book in the trilogy come summer. Overall I'd say if you kind of liked the first book then you will definitely like the second one more. Though I know the green text would have bothered me if I wasn't reading it on my kindle so keep that in mind.
I can’t say that I was eagerly anticipating this book. I had read Shiver, the first book, and wondered if the next book would improve. Frequently the first book is just ok and then the second book really delivers and makes up for anything lacking from the first book. I am sad to say that Linger did not make up for anything. I thought the prologue was a great idea. Frequently readers forget details from the prior book due to the time lapse between book releases. This prologue helped bring a few details back to the surface.
I freely admit that I don’t recall all of the events of Shiver and as long as I didn’t really care about having all of the facts it didn’t really matter. After several chapters I grew tired of the plot and decided to work my way from the back of the book. I flipped a third of the way from the end and started reading. This didn’t affect my view of the story at all.
The ending was what I suspected would happen but it seems there are multiple unanswered questions so I suspect a third book will be written. I’m not too sure I can bring myself to do anything but read the first few chapters followed by the last few chapters.
I think that the target audience (teens) will enjoy this book much more than most adults.

Not as good as the first one, but still enjoyable and well written. The plot is interesting and balanced to the relationships, making it work on more than one level. Stiefvater's version of teen love has all the drama and passion, but it seems deeper and more subtle than most novels portray. Looking forward to the final book.
One of the best love stories I’ve ever read. Love Sam and Grace. Twilight eat your heart out.
