I’ve read all of her books and this was one of my least favorites. I listened to it and that maybe wasn’t the right call for me. I may have been able to follow the storyline and many characters if I’d been able to see their names. There is a new narrator for this audiobook that’s intended to provide an authentic Quebec accent and he does. I had a really hard time following his reading and struggled to follow the plot.

I have loved the Gamache series since I stumbled upon the first in the series 6 years ago. They are the only books I pre-order and begin reading the day I get them. I could not be more disappointed in this book. The main plot device was absurd on the face of it. Far too many people and too much time passed for the events to unfold as they did. I just never bought the whole premise. I realized the parts of the books that I loved were the parts that dealt with the Three Pines community. I hope if she writes a 20th book that if focuses again on that community as she doesn't seem to be able to create a credible political thriller.

Sometimes it was hard to recall which scenarios from past books she was referencing. Wish there had been more action from the other Three Pines residents.
