This book picked up the pace better than previous books. Several chunks of the book were really riveting. I like the Mat sections, and the Rand stuff was unexpected but good. Finally the Perrin Faile plot paid off.

Now that the main characters have more fully decided on their goals and personalities, it’s becoming more obvious that those who are stuck in the old ways and/or only focused on amassing power for themselves are doing The Dark One’s work- unintentionally if they are not Darkfriends. I noticed this most with
the way Alviarin was unable to corrupt Egwene with offers of escape (as she is focused on reuniting the tower, not her own power) compared to how easily she corrupted Elaida (who was just power-hungry).

A bittersweet book. After a rough patch of not very good installments, Jordan writes one last book before his untimely death that returns the series to the quality of the earlier books and finally advances the plot towards its endgame and final showdown of Tarmon Gai'don. Every plotline moves forward (although Egwene's storyline is clearly setting up for the next installment) and feels crucial. And FINALLY the Shaido/Faile plot is resolved. He left the series on a good note, and set it up so that another could finish off the series.

A fair bit of plot in this book, with some good character development. A bit slow in the middle, but one of the better books in the series.
