What happened in this book while interesting, mostly, could have been done in half the pages. This one was paced too slowly for me

Jordan has pushed me right to the edge of submitting to quitting this series, or even reading some plot summaries and jumping to Sanderson's stepping in.

Jordan has shown both his phenomenal story-telling while showcasing his terrible writing skills. Most* characters fall flat, repetitive and down right exhausting. Some of the characterisations are just horrible, while characters like Rand have great development, Nynaeve is the worst character I've ever had the displeasure of reading, 6 books in and Jordan shows his inability to write women. The characters in a whole feel stagnant and uninteresting at best.

The engaging story and having a small handful of engaging characters has got me this far, we will see on the next book. I really hope

I love listening to these and I love most of the characters. I think I get a lot more out of them now than I did when I was a teen. While some of the detail I think would exhaust me if I was reading it, listening to it is pleasant and I can clean, walk the dog, workout, drive, etc all while doing so. The readers also do a great job.

Thankfully, I have forgotten enough of the story detail since I was a kid to be surprised and really appreciate the tale Jordan weaves together. It's everything I want George R.R. Martin books to be in that respect. Everything ties in a connects to something else in a meaningful, if small, way. Also, while it is difficult to keep track of which characters know which bits of information, it also makes for some great dramatic situations. It's just a great series.

Okay, I'm still enjoying these books, but I understand im entering the supposed decline before the good end, but im determined to see the series through. Im still not convinced the middle of the series is as bad as some people say because currently, im having a good time with the series.

Pretty much all of my complaints carry over from fires of heaven, but especially the way women are written in the story. Women are constantly just being rude to everyone around them, and its starting to get really exhausting. The men aren't much better, mind you, especially towards women, but there are at least a few seemingly genuine male friendships.

I downt want to complain too much, I enjoy these books and look forward to reading more.
