I liked this better than Good Girl’s Guide to Murder but less than Inheritance Games. They all have the same spooky YA mystery vibe that centers around a young girl who thinks she’s all that.

Loses an entire star for ending with to be continued

Wow! I absolutely loved this book, especially as an audiobook. The narrator, Kate Rudd was fantastic as all the characters. She really made me feel like I was taking part in the story.
This Young Adult mystery book had every trope I love: Boarding school, murder, and romance. I really appreciated the real feelings that the characters had when it came to shock over a murder. The author must have done research on how shock affects people, in particular, teenagers.
The two mysteries in this book left me suspecting everyone involved. The cliff hanger at the end of the book was everything I was hoping for and I will start listening to the sequel immediately to find out what the heck is happening!
This was my first five star rating of the year!
Way to go, Maureen Johnson! Looking forward to reading/listening to Vanishing Stair.

This was my first ever audiobook and I devoured it in one day. The atmospheric nature of this book is phenomenal and comes of very well in audiobook format. But the mystery itself seemed a bit long winded to me and some of the characters hard to connect to (though I do love our main character).

I absolutely love the Sherlock Holmes style mystery where the main character notices many things the reader doesn't and brings it all together in the end, but part of this plot seemed too meandering at times.
Also, and this is completely my fault, I thought this was a stand alone. I wasn't aware that this was a trilogy so that ending just left me....frustrated. Even though this was my fault, it docked a star from my enjoyment overall.
Will I be reading the next one though? For sure.
