Really good but you just can't end on a cliffhanger like that! So not okay! Also, too much romance for my taste. Yuck!

I HATE murder mystery book series. Fml because there's five books in this series. Anyway murder thrillers aren't really my thing but this was low stakes enough that I could handle it. I don't know what I was thinking as I got closer and closer to the end AND knowing this was a series. I wish we got a conclusive ending to at least one plot line/mystery. I also wished the mc exhibited more of her investigative skills and was more proactive in solving the case, but oh well, I enjoyed it. :/ now I know what I'm going to spend the rest of my week doing.

Lots of fun, which I expect in a Maureen Johnson book. It’s a quick read with an interesting story, although the mystery gets spread across the books, so this ends on a cliffhanger. I would’ve liked more character building from some of the side characters. I liked that there was a mixture of the past and present.

It has definitely been too long since I have read Maureen Johnson! This book has reminded how much I enjoy the stories and characters from Maureen Johnson’s stories and I was very pleased to be able to get the second book in this series as soon as I finished the first!
Stevie was awesome and I desperately want to be her friend and also her sidekick while she solves all the mysteries.

:(

I am soo glad that I was finally available to read this book! Did not disappoint at all!!

I absolutely loved the characters. All the suspicious air surrounding every one of them left me guessing and blaming everything on everybody. Even nice Janelle was suspicious to me when the poor girl only wanted to be with Vi, awww.
The plot is very intriguing, I like the layout of the Academy, I kept turning back to the map to see the distances and the layout of everything that was happening which was a good choice.
The ending is a true teaser, but at that point I was already expecting for David to drop the bomb on Stevie although I did not expect King to arrive (stylishly on a helicopter, what). Sometimes tho I did feel that the plot was moving a bit slower than before and Stevie's emotions took over the plot which might be an interesting narrative point but it took me out of the concentration to solve the murder myself.
I am super excited to jump into the next book as all the reviews I came across said that it is way better than the first one but it's another cliffhanger so I'll be impatiently waiting for it to be January and buy the last book.
Overall very pleased, almost gave 5 starts but I hope that the second one will give me that extra 1 point spark that I need!

Loved loved loved this. Ready for the rest and all the answers NOW.
