Not as compelling as the first book (The Ritual) but still a great read that was hard to put down. Touch on some serious matters such as child abuse and conditioning

🎧 this was an unhinged read for me. Seriously check your triggers. This is DARK and involves a lot of child sexual assault descriptions. The plot and story itself had me hooked and I wanted to find out more. I was getting confused with the back and forth of love and betrayal of the MMC and FMC. If I were the FMC I would have gone crazy with whiplash. I stuck through it though and the ending kinda of rehashed it so I could wrap my brain around it better. The spice is explicit in this book. The scenes were not my cup of tea but the suspense in the plot kept me in it.

As for the performance, this is not a must listen for me. I don’t like when I can hear the narrator take a breath and I repeatedly heard it with this one. It always throws me off and makes it harder to fully take in the book and delve into the world.

My expectations for this book were set by the pace and storyline of The Ritual.  That said, I felt that the first two thirds of the book were slow and disjointed.   I get this was a lot of trauma affected people dealing with other trauma affected people, but there just did not seem to be a reason for Easton to turn on her as drastically as he did.  She would have believed anything, but to induce more trauma did not make sense with his end game and plans.  It was a bit much.

However,  that said, the last third of the book made up for all the blah in the beginning.  There was drama, intrigue, action, mystery, death and love.

Although I wish there was a constancy throughout the book, all in all it worked.

I really liked The Ritual so I had high hopes for The Sinner but it was terrible. Not a single character had any redeeming qualities and the "love" interest between Ellie and Sin made no sense. There was no tension whatsoever even though they were allegedly in love with eachother since childhood. I never actually felt like they wanted to be together beyond her "belonging" to him. That dynamic only worked in the first book because there was actual banter, tension, and interactions beyond the sex. Actually none of the relationships in this book had any substance including their friends and parents. Overall super disappointed and I'm glad I am finally done.

This second book in the L.O.R.D.S. series is probably my favorite with Sin being my favorite bad boy, closely followed by Ryat. I felt like this one was darker than The Ritual, and the beginning had me wondering what in the world I was in store for. The storyline in this book took me for a ride and I loved every minute of it. I couldn't get enough and really wanted more of Sin and Elli. This is the book from the series that will stick with me for a while. Highly recommend you read it!!
