As always with Agatha Christie, the twist at the end was so fun and surprising but all made so much sense. Going from reading more modern books to reading this was a bit difficult since books written during this time have a different cadence and seem to casually walk you through a story instead of the frantic spring of modern books. But it’s still so enjoyable and I am adding more of her books to my list for this year.
3⭐. I love the introduction of Miss Marple and she's probably my favorite old detective. Honestly Agatha Christine is a much better mystery writer than Arthur Conan Doyle. Thing is for the first book of Miss Marple series, there's not a lot of Miss Marple. The narrator is boring ass clergy man. Also most part of the book is boring and only the final reveal was satisfying. Not the queen's best book (i still love Then There was None and Murder on the Orient Express with my whole heart). Also the casual racism is a bit unbearable. Yes, let's compare someone who wants to see the emporer of China to murderers. The "moral degradation" lmao. Fucking hilarious considering UK bombed the shit out of my country only three decades earlier to the publish of this book and WE'RE SOMEHOE THE MORAL DEGRADATION. the audacity.
The first of the Miss Marple novels and one of the best
As the title suggests, a murder has occurred at the Vicarage in St. Mary Mead. Thankfully Miss Marple and a cast of other folks are around to solve the mystery of who did it.
This book is the introduction to Miss Marple, and I really enjoy that she is described through the lens of other folks in her village.
I think the pacing of this Agatha Christie book was a bit slow so I got a bit bored. It took me much, much longer than normal to finish this novel because I kept wandering away from it to do other things.
Regardless, this was a fun book filled with educational details.

I sincerely enjoy Christie's writing style. I found this book very accessible, especially considering it was published in 1930.
Unfortunately, I just don't think this is my genre. Too many characters to keep track of. Too many little plots everywhere. Maybe I'll try her few non-mysteries.

My first Agatha Christie book, and I'm not in a hurry to read any more. The book had a slow start for me, probably because I didn't connect to any of the characters at all. For a short while it got a little better after the murder was committed, but I soon lost interest again. I just didn't feel connected to the characters or the story. I finished it only because I read it for a group read and it was short, if not, I would probably have abandoned it. I didn't even really care who the murderer was for a while. although I did get a bit curious again towards the end.
