This was my first Miss Marple story and I must say, there is nothing extraordinary about Miss Marple at all. I did miss the endearingly annoying Poirot.

For being published in 1930, I found the text to be quite scandelous. I must be, however, quite naive to the times.

The story was not particularly exciting, but I did marvel at the masterful way Christie captures personalities so genuinely. I definitely felt like I could have been reading about real people. And what strikes me even more profoundly, is that people are quite similar across time. Human nature does not change. So, bravo to Ms. Christie for her stellar gift of observation. I appreciate her writing, even when the story is a little more on the common side.

I enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as other books I’ve read by Agatha Christie. It also took me way too long to get through, while I normally finish her books in just a few days.
That being said, I still really liked the plot! 3/5 :)

I read this book in Ukrainian and found it to be a decent detective novel, although not the best, but still interesting. In fact, the solution to the mystery is quite simple, revolving around one murder where the identity of the killer becomes easily apparent. However, Agatha Christie weaves a tangled web of events and time to keep the intrigue and prevent the reader from easily guessing the solution. If you enjoy books where everything is not as it seems, then this detective novel may be of interest to you.
