I believe I am more of a Poirot fan than a Miss Marple fan, but I definitely enjoyed the vicar's narrative voice and his exasperation with all the gossip around the small village and his lovely witty wife. A fun, easy read and a Christie classic.
"There is no detective in England equal to a spinster lady of uncertain age with plenty of time on her hands."
Agatha Christie's genius never fails to amaze me, especially the scale of it. How she crafts such original, unpredictable murder mysteries again and again still blows my mind.
The only issue I really had with this was the Vicar as narrator; I found his character a little too self-righteous and uninteresting. His privyness to the drama seemed a little too convenient, and I found his hypocrisy rather annoying. (For example, how he judges other villagers for convening with those too young for them when in fact his wife is way too young for him.) Were it not for the Vicar, this probably would have been a five-star read for me.
3.5/5! Overall a good mystery with an interesting cast of characters.

I really enjoyed it. The characters were lovely and everything was wrapped up nicely.
كثرة المشتبه بهم و عدم وجود دليل قاطع على من المجرم وامتلاكهم حجة غياب تجعل من الجريمة قضية شبه مستحيلة الحل الا ان لا شيأ يصعب على الانسة ماربل.

as much as I like mysteries this is the first time I have read an Agatha Christie book. This book was first published in 1930 and you can definitely see the change in the times, especially after someone asked about their gramaphone records!
I thought it was interesting to have it told from the Vicar's point of view vs. Miss Marple's.
the only thing we can't figure out is why people kept coming in and out of windows...perhaps the windows were actually French doors?

It took me a while to get to a Miss Marple mystery in book form. I read Ten Little Indians in high school as the most memorable beginning to the magic that is Agatha Christie, but don't remember reading many after that. I watched a lot of movies or BBC episodes featuring Miss Marple or Hercules Poirot. It was my daughter who got me interested in reading the books when she discovered the same magic not too long ago. We've been on the lookout ever since for books to add to her shelves. Not in any particular order, just if the mystery and story looks intriguing to her.
So I thought I would start at the beginning and have Miss Marple introduced to me. This is a really good book to see how characters are introduced and tell the story. Miss Marple is almost in the background here and I wonder if it will be the same in all of the books featuring her. It's the vicar who does most of the sleuthing, but absolutely listens and heeds Miss Marple's words of wisdom and observations.
I absolutely enjoyed reading this books and can definitely recommend the book, series and author.
