I've often criticized authors for using 400 pages to write a 200-page story. My chief criticism of The Murder at the Vicarage is that Christie used just over 200 pages to write what I believe could and should have been at least a 300-page story. As is characteristic of Christie's murder mysteries, the reader is presented with a rather large pool of possible suspects. Yet, with such poor character development, I hardly cared who the culprit was. And although it didn't factor into my rating, I found it bizarre that Miss Marple, the character after whom the series is named, does not narrate the story and is featured in only approximately one third of the book.

Mais uma maravilhosa aventura de Miss Marple, desta vez em sua terra natal. Muito bom. Desta vez achei o final surpreendente.

This was a good read. It was interesting to read the first Miss Marple book.

Watched the movie. Now I don’t need to read the book.

This is the first of Agatha Christie's "Miss Marple" books - and you can tell. Irritatingly (to me, at least), it is written in the first person, and from the point-of-view of another character altogether. She has done this with her first in the "Hercule Poirot" series, as well. Although I liked both books as far as suspense goes, "Murder at the Vicarage" is not one of my Christie favourites. It didn't help that the edition I had had undergone some ghastly electronic errors in typesetting, so that every dash (and Christie is very fond of the dash in Marple books) came out as a Capital N with a tilde on the top...

I had high expectations for Chrisitie and this was a let down. I will have to see if Poirot can change my thought on her writing.
