Ich habe die Filme schon gesehen gehabt also wusste ich schon was passiert, aber ich liebte die Filme (und Gideon) also dachte ich mir wieso nicht auch die Bücher lesen und ich muss sagen es ist definitiv gut. Manchmal wenn Bücher für ab 12 sind können sie sehr schlecht geschrieben sein, aber zum Glück waren sie das nicht, man kann sich einfach in Gwen hineinversetzten und sie nachvollziehen, mir war ein bisschen zu wenig romance da aber die wird sicherlich im nächsten Buch auftauchen.

Als ich das Buch damals mit 12 gelesen habe war ich absolut obsseded mit der ganzen Trilogie und vor allem Gwendolyn und Gideon. Deshalb hatte ich vor kurzem nochmal Lust mir anzusehen ob das Buch 8 Jahre später immer noch so fesselnd ist.
(Leider) hatte ich das Buch nicht da und hab mir deswegen kurzerhand das Audiobook gelesen von Maria Ehrich und Josefine Preuß angehört, meine Meinung hier könnte also ein wenig davon beeinflusst sein.
First of all, Maria Ehrich und Josefine Preuß lesen das Buch absolut fantastisch. Would definitely recommend.
Secondly, nach 8 Jahren gefällt mir das Buch definitely immer noch gut. Ich konnte kaum aufhören das Hörbuch zu hören und hatte es nach anderthalb Tagen durch (die ungekürzte Fassung dauert btw über 8h), was sicherlich auch an den Leserinnen lag. Aber auch daran dass Gwendolyn mir als Protagonistin immer noch sympathisch ist (meistens) und das Buch und die Story einfach auch Spaß machen.
Einziger größerer "Kritikpunkt" ist wohl, dass die Handlung innerhalb von 3 Tagen statt findetund sich Gwendolyn und Gideon nachdem sie sich erst 2 Tage kennen schon küssen und das obwohl sie sich so 2 Stunden davor noch nicht mal wirklich mochten und es wird irgendwie nicht ganz klar woher dieser Sinneswandel, vor allem bei Gideon, kommt. Vielleicht ist das aber auch nur eine personal preference, aber mir ging das ein bisschen zu schnell an der Stelle.
Das aber mal dahingestellt, natürlich ist das Buch nicht fehlerfrei und an vielen Stellen darf man auch einfach nicht zu sehr über die Zeitreiseregeln nachdenken, aber I guess das ist bei allen Büchern mit Zeitreisen immer ein bisschen so.
Also, gefällt mir das Buch immer noch genau so gut wie mit 12?
Naja, würde ich so nicht sagen.
Aber es ist trotzdem immer noch ein witziges, romantisches Zeitreisebuch und für das was es ist, ist es auf jeden Fall auch immer noch sehr gut. Gerade für zwischendurch oder während einer Prüfungsphase, wie ich sie grade habe eignet es sich sehr gut um einfach mal abzuschalten und ein wenig der traurigen Realität zu entschwinden(wobei bei mir auch viel Nostalgie wohl da mitspielt). Vor allem als Hörbuch ist es dafür absolut fantastisch gewesen.

I don’t think I can write an unbiased review… This book will always be one of my favorites, simply because of the nostalgia associated with it.

An interesting mix of time-travel, secret societies, and modern day England. We begin by following Gwyneth (Gwen) in school, learning about the mysterious gene her family carries, and her stuck up cousin that is believed to have it. Gwen's cousin, grandmother, and aunt are too proud and stuck-up with the knowledge of their ancestry, but Gwen, her siblings, and her mother, consider themselves to be very much normal. That is, until Gwen starts to develop the symptoms of the gene that only her cousin is supposed to have... and ends up back in Victorian England. Gwen was supposed to be normal, so she wasn't raised to be a time traveler like her cousin was, and is very much confused and panicked. What follows is a whirlwind of family drama, secret society politics, and wild time travel experiences.
Gwen has to accompany fellow time-traveler Gideon, who seems to be a handsome, stuck-up prick. With him, she meets the mysterious and dangerous 'Count', fights some would-be assassins, and meets her estranged cousin back in time. All in all, a very good book.
My only issues with the book is that this first book seems to be mostly world-building and setting up for the rest of the series. We only really get to the action and time-travel around half-way through the book, and most of the rest is setting up for future adventures. Gwen learns the basics of time-travel, the family drama, and some of what it means to be the 'Ruby'. The prologue is a bit confusing, but I managed to figure most of it out by the end of the book. The prologue focuses on Lucy and Paul, landing in time after stealing the main chronograph. No names are used except for the pet name 'Princess', so I guess I imagined it was Gwen and Gideon. Only near the end do we finally meet Lucy and Paul for the first time, and the pet name is used several times, in reference to Lucy. So that definitely cements the answer, as well as the fact that the Epilogue is also in set in Lucy and Paul's POV. I think I figured out that it wasn't Gwen before then, only because I didn't think Gwen had any reason to steal the chronograph yet, let alone even get along with Gideon. Of course, they are slightly inevitable as a couple, since we see 'older Gwen' kissing him in one of 'younger Gwen's' time jumps. Anyways, a very good story, just a little slow in the beginning.
