Book 5 in the Elemental series was really good. I have stepped back from this series for quite awhile so it took my memory a bit longer to get caught back up on the previous books in the series. I have been so excited to read about Michael as he's been my favourite since [b:Elemental|13418864|Elemental (Elemental, #0.5)|Brigid Kemmerer|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1387754610s/13418864.jpg|18769953].

I loved seeing everything from Michael's POV. From someone who had to grow up and become a father figure at such an early age - Michael shows off such a tough exterior. Seeing how he could crack at the seams made my emotions swell. There was so much more anticipation and action with the Guides in this book that I think this is the first time we really don't have much interaction with the other Merrick brothers as we did before. This book is truly really all about Michael.

His relationship with Hanna doesn't really expand too much from what we knew in [b:Secret|17149088|Secret (Elemental, #4)|Brigid Kemmerer|https://d2arxad8u2l0g7.cloudfront.net/books/1374844682s/17149088.jpg|23555633]. What I was happy about though, was that Michael finally had someone to talk to. Other than his brothers, someone who could understand him on a more mature level than his brother did. Hanna is one bad-ass who can totally hold her own. That's exactly what Michael needs.

I finished thinking this was the final book in the series and wasn't very thrilled with the ending. A little more exploring has told me there will be a 6th in the series. Can't wait!!

Solid read. In my opinion the most thrilling story so far. Hope we get the oportunity to read a little more about those guys!

Okay, yeah, we're not done with the Merrick boys. Seriously, Brigid Kemmerer, this world and this series is too good to end now. I recommend a whole new cycle with 4-5 more books. You can do like what has just been finished and give each Merrick boy another book for a four-book continuation, or if you'd like to have a fifth book, well, Tyler has kind of grown on me.

The only thing that kind of bummed me out with this book is that I wanted more with Michael and Hannah. Michael is my favorite Merrick brother and while this was a high-adrenaline book with a lot of suspense and drama and action, I felt like I wanted so much more. And while it wraps up decently, I can't say that I am pleased by the end.

So yes, more books have to be on the way. Make it so.

An unconclusive ending for the series.

Okay, this time Kemmerer didn’t forget the Elemental stuff. We hit the ground running from the very start with a real threat to the Merrick family. Michael’s struggle is portrayed so well, it’s not hard to feel for the guy. I just don’t think his plot intersects much with Hannah’s. I mean, they literally grow apart, instead of closer. And what happened to Casper? He magically disappeared after around chapter 6, and didn’t show up again until the last chapter.

SpoilerAnd God, what’s with Kemmerer’s hatred for our fifth element?

Ok so that ending was a punch to the stomach! Overall, a really good book and I think Brigid ended the series well.

It just ends without any actual resolution

How the f*ck has the author always intended the series to end with this book? Literally the only resolution for this series is that everyone who loves gets paired off in a couple.

Spoilers

So Hunter is just dead? Is that why he doesn't get a girl because the plan was to just kill him off without ever providing any indication that the power could kill the elemental?

Michael just doesn't have custody of the boys, or a home, or his business but story is over because he and Hannah decided to date.

They killed the most recent guide on their way to kill them all, but Irish said things are changing, and it's not like the Guides aren't going to continue to send more people to kill the Merrick's considering the multiple dead guides and the fact that a whole town almost blew up and or burned down.

None of the plot points are resolved outside of everyone is getting laid now.

And the author always intended this to be the conclusion to the series. This I mind boggling to me. She would fail even a middle school writing course with what she has put forth her as her conclusion. This is just an unacceptable f*ck you to the readers who followed the characters and their stories. Disgusted.

The conclusion wasn’t satisfying. There was no real closure to the series or the overall plot. We were left with an open ended story and no hope for a book 6. I hate it. I shouldn’t have read past book 1.

I should know better with this author. The first book is always the best and every book after that is progressively worse. From now on, I’m pretending that book 1 of each of her series is a standalone book.
