Too many words, too many characters, too many coincidences, way too much religion, while severely lacking in plot. This book was clearly filler before wrapping it up and totally unnecessary. What a shame, the series started out so riviting.
Why keep adding new characters and opening up new backstories without giving some conclusion to any of the? It was a rambling mess that could have been winnowed down to a much shorter book.
Also, enough already with the "Jesus H Roosevelt Christ" already! Who uses the same swears 30 yesrs later especially after it has gotten you into trouble before?

The series returns to form after the brutally disappointing Book 8. I began it dubiously, but ended up gobbling it down like candy.
I don’t know how Diana Gabaldon does it, but these books just continue to get better. Engaging, uplifting, and heartbreaking. Absolutely loved it.
This book left a bad taste in my mouth. I've been reading these books since I was a teen and I just think their time has passed. It was fine while they were in Europe, or trapped in the past. It just started to lose me when Brianna and Roger WILLINGLY returned to the past, without birth control (!). When they arrived in soon-to-be the United States and now I'm reading a story about affluent white people living contentedly amongst slavery. It took almost three-hundred pages of this book before a slave was mentioned, as part of the scenery. There's so much religion in this one, and I already live in the bible-belt.

Holy Cow, so much self-indulgent rambling! I am only giving this 2 stars because of the amazing audio narration of Davina Porter. This was such an incredible slog and after 21 hours I am throwing in the towel with a sigh of relief. I would not have been able to finish another 28 hours of this.
I was so bored that at one point I decided to just skip a chapter to see if I would lose the “tread” of the story. Nope, didn’t miss anything.
But no book is ever a waste – I think this would be a fantastic buy for a friend who suffers from insomnia. They will sleep like a baby in no time.
