4.2 AVERAGE

In for a dime, in for a dollar…I’ve read over 10,000 pages of Outlander content at this point, so obviously I enjoy it, and read this one in nine days before it was due back in the library. At the same time, I don’t think Gabaldon will ever write something as great as the first book in the series, so I’m always left feeling like I’m trying to chase that very first high.

I was not into the amount of story dedicated to Lord John's family. I haven't read his spinoff books and felt like there was a lot I was missing. Love that Ian got a new wolf pup and that the Frasers ended up with a coonhound, but the journeys of the various family members seemed to have a lot of build up only to all return to the ridge in a very casual way.

If I wasn't reading this in bed at 11 pm, I would've shouted out loud "NOOOOOOOOOOOO" when the book ended. Yeah... it's a cliffhanger.

A lot of tying up loose character ends from the last book and opening up a few more.

Can't believe it took me 30 years to find this series and now I'm just like y'all.... waiting like a petulant child for my next serving.

I love Gabaldon’s writing and her ability to make history come alive. This novel did not seem to have the same levels of drama that some of her previous books have had, but it was an enjoyable read nonetheless. I hope that I am still living (currently 61) when the next and final installment is published.

This book was all over the place, i had trouble staying on track, managing too many story lines, characters, locations. Disappointed i am.

Just finished this and after having listened to all 9 audio books back to back thinking that the series was complete! Never have I ever been more delighted to find out a 10th book is on the way!

I love the Outlander series but this book is definitely at the bottom of the pile. I'm hoping book 10, the last book, lives up the rest of the novels.

This is read number 99 for me and how sad I am that this one is not 100!

It has been a long wait and this one did not disappoint. I actually ordered an autographed copy and it won't be here until January, if I am lucky, but I was first to get the ebook from the library. But that meant I had to read it in two weeks! The author does a great job of reminding the reader who people are since it has been a while since the last book. There are so many story lines going on in this one. Sometimes the reader may like one story line over another, but I was interested in what was happening with everyone. I went to Savannah a few weeks ago and part of this takes place in Savannah which was really cool. I went to Pulaski's monument and grave and he is mentioned in the book. It does end in a bit of a cliffhanger so I am now anxiously awaiting the next book.

"See, if somebody leaves or dies and you don't tell the bees, they take offense, and the whole lot of 'em will fly right off."

From the author's note:

If writers felt constrained to write only about their own experience, culture, history, or background...libraries would be full of dull biographies.

This book ended and I literally screamed out loud! I have never done that before. I hate when books end on such a huge cliffhanger. Hurry up Diana and get us the next book ASAP!

This was one of my most anticipated book releases of the year, and it did not disappoint. I missed the world of Outlander so much. I wanted to reread the series before I read this one, but I just didn't have enough time, so there were a few plot points that I forgot, but there are a lot of refreshers in this novel that remind you of what happened so I was never lost. I missed Claire and Jamie and Young Ian more than I knew, and I loved the differing perspectives from this book. The action was slightly tame compared to other books in the series, but there were still some high-stakes things that happened, and you can tell (at least I could) that the series is finally coming to an end, trying to tie up all the plot points. I loved the family dynamics in this installment, Claire and Jamie's love as always, and how certain parts of their past were involved in the plot. I'm so excited for the last book, but I hope it doesn't take her another 5+ years to write it like this one did.
