Disappointed.
If this is intended to be the penultimate book in the series then why spend so much time adding new characters into the mix? Why are our favorite characters scattered across the entire Eastern US when they have a home on the Ridge? Is the author trying to demonstrate the various skirmishes and political climates in every state?
I mostly felt discombobulated through the entire story.

How many variations of the same story can be written and read?
Did I silently sob in a room at work while eating my lunch and pumping? Yes. I’m so devastated to be to caught up on the series. More on that later.

All the stories were very interesting but it felt like nothing was quite as detailed as it should or could have been. Compared to the earlier books it all felt a bit rushed. As if the goal was to tell as many stories as possible. Was a bit sad about that.
Otherwise it was a nice book. Finally less chores and more stories but sadly no overarching main storyline. There is a kind of storyline throughout but just … yeah … slightly disconnected.
The cliffhanger at the end is interesting and makes me want to get my hands on the next book though.

The books in the Outlander series are always a 5 star read for me and this one is no different. I have owned the book since it was released in 2021 but I waited until Dec 2024 to read it to lessen the time before the next book is released. Maybe it doesn’t make sense but it works for me.
Go and tell the bees that not much happens at all.
I enjoyed this book. Although the wait is long and other say that there were disappointed, I am not. I enjoy the daily lives of the characters and I'm glad that the story isn't so jammed packed with "action" that it's unrealistic. You can clearly tell that Diana Gabaldon, isn't done with the world of Outlander and I'm perfectly okay with that.
Between reading and listening to the audiobook, I was so enthralled by the storytelling. There wasn’t as a big of a conflict as the other novels but I really enjoyed the slow pace of the Fraser family and all their connections. I hooked for the next one though!
