Most of this book was chock full of useless information and stories that went nowhere. No surprise, most of them are.
Well that was…uninspiring? Why was there SO. MUCH. RELIGION?! I felt like I was reading a Christian novel. Not that there’s anything wrong with that if that’s your jam, but…it seemed a little excessive. And definitely got on my nerves after a while. Was everyone a preacher in their spare time in the 1700s?
If all her books have a shape I’d say this one is a figure eight - just going around and around in a never ending spiral. ¾ of the book literally nothing happens, and what does doesn’t make any real sense. Huge build up for things that go nowhere (heart trouble followed by a completely uneventful birth?), reintroduction of bland characters, and basically NOTHING HAPPENS. Truly, what was the point of this book?
Of course having said all of that I love the series and was still happy to fall back into her world. But overall it was disappointing.

I hope at some point I can catch up on the tv show. I really think it translates better there although at the same time, I do think this series has slowed down so much that it's kind of boring at this point. I'm not as interested in the John/Willy storyline.
It's deeply flawed and it desperately needs an editor (well, really, an entire team of editors). Also, I loved it.
This is a long, detailed, luxuriant read. I got to settle in with these characters I've grown to love and just spend time with them. So often, when reading some of the more action-packed books in the series, I just want to ask Gabaldon to give these poor people a break! and in this book, she does. Knowing that there will be only one more book, I am grateful for this long, mostly quiet interlude.
I love a book with a strong sense of place, and this one is a full on multisensory experience. Are all the little side stories and fully drawn-out daily occurrences necessary? No. You could cut out half of it and still hold onto the plot. But that's not what I look for from Gabaldon. Instead, I look for the full-immersion escapism that she has delivered here. I loved it. I'm so sad I've finished.

Another amazing addition to the Outlander series. Yes she does tend to repeat some information; but I would consider the Outlander series to be extremely rich with characters and information that it’s at times nice to be reminded so you can better understand emotions and details of characters. Having read through the entire series twice, there’s some things I still find I missed.
Also if you haven’t tried the audio version read by Davina Porter you are missing out!

It did not disappoint! Loved getting to know more of the secondary characters like Rachel, Dottie, William, Fanny, et al. Could not put it down. Such difficulty returning to real life after spending so much time on Fraser’s Ridge.
I had so much to say, but it’s no longer fresh in my memory. Basically, this edition was super drawn out, was supposed to be the last book? What more can happen to this poor couple and family. Honestly, as much as I love this series, I do think it should have ended already.
So many hours reading, to end with a "meh." I'm glad I had other things to read, meanwhile.
Easily the worst in the series it took me almost 18 months to complete because I had to take breaks to read other more enjoyable books.
It feels as though Diana has found religion and is trying to make us all believers. Yes it was discussed in other books, but it was such a heavy part of this book, and then to have the literal quiverfull movement quote

I mean…It’s outlander so I loved it. BUT holy slow start and weird ending. I think this will be really fun to watch on the show though.
