I’ve liked most of the outlander series but this book was just extremely slow and hard for me to get into. I found that I was bored for most of the book until the last 100 pages. I’m not sure if I’ll continue after this book. I loved the first ones but the series has been so long and each book has been so long that they’ve started to lose my interest. Gabaldon’s writing is intricate and descriptive. Her characters are very well written and true to themselves - all of their choices are extremely believable. There were many parts that I felt didn’t move the story along though.

Gabaldone kā rakstniece un stāstniece vienmēr sildīs manu sirdi, pat divu vīru sarunu par atejām viņa māk padarīt dziļu un aizrautīgu. Bet, alas, izsmalcinātu sižeta līniju audēja gan viņa nav.
Varoņi ir izcili, teikumi ir lieliski, atsevišķas ainiņas ir burvīgas un pat ar visām 49 klausīšanās stundām liekvārdībā autori nevar vainot.
Bet... Pietrūkst tādas lielās dramaturģijas. Tikai pie pašām beigām atklājās, kas tad būs šīs grāmatas TAS notikums, un tas bija cauri 30min, un beigās nekas slikts nav noticis. Varbūt šur tur ieskanējās šī notikuma priekšskaņas, bet tik minimālas, tās mierīgi neuzmanīgākam lasītājam varēja paskriet garām, un pat es neesmu tā uzmanīgākā. Protams, vieglāk izdzīvot stāsta dramaturģiju, ja centrālais varoņu uzdevums ir nepieļaut Culloden kauju. Ar Amerikāņu revolūciju un vairāku gadu pieredzi "vēstures mainīšanā" varoņiem tik vienkārši vairs nav, un diemžēl autorei arī. Bez lielākām vai mazākām personiskām traģēdijām grāmatas kļūst tādas mazliet pliekanas. Nu kas notiek, dzīve notiek! Kas, protams, nav tik slikti, ja ļoti mīļi varoņus. Bet lasītājam - gardēdim gribas kaut ko vairāk. Gribas, lai grāmatu sadalījumam kopējā sērijā būtu jēga. Tagad mums atkal jāgaida vairāki gadi uz šīm asa sižeta Freizeru ģimenes ainiņām.

I do feel like there are starting to be some similar, repeat story lines that have reoccurred over the course of 9 books but I still eat it up nonetheless. I really am in awe of how detailed Diana is with tiny historical and medical details, different language phrases and just overall planning out of the plot and character development. Also of course it ends on a bit of a cliffhanger .. patiently awaiting at least the title of Book 10!
